What are your favorite self imposed challenges in video games. Mine is either MGS 5 without chicken hat or fire support or contra 3 with only the basic machine gun.

I think this topic may be better in Yack Fest.

The thread already exists.

Not sure if it's too generic enough for a thread regardless, though.

Ah, I love me a good self-imposed challenge. I haven't really done that many, but I've attempted a few on some of the games I've replayed more often. They can really make a game shine in new ways, or give you a better look at how it all works. Dishonored is one I've done a few bits of; obviously there's the built-in stuff like ghosting a levelnote , but I had fun making completely-minimal use of knock-outs and powers.

I've also dicked around in online shooters, most obviously Team Fortress 2, though there's a bit of a difference there, I think. Since it's a team game and all, I usually only do this if it's apparent that my team holds a heavy advantage or if my team is already doing something deliberately stupid. You know, fair play, sportsmanship, try not to spoil the game for anyone else. But fun things I've tried a few times: melee only, Pyro except you're only allowed to use the Flame Thrower to airblast, shotgun/Holiday-Punch Heavy, no-Sentry Engineer.

MGSV without the chicken hat? That's the easy mode item, you're supposed to remove that at some point or another if you're going to get any S-ranks!

If you really want to put a self-imposed challenge on yourself, try sneaking through the game without the HUD, or "Naked" runs with no other equipment other than the rank 1 M16 copycat and tranq guns (because you cannot start a mission without a primary and sidearm equipped).

Really, the biggest self-imposed challenge for me is playing video games without looking at any guides. More specifically, adventure games, RP Gs, and general "where the F*** do I go" games.
