What do you create when you mix the Payday games, World War 2, John Cleese, live-action FMV cutscenes, and the sort of humor Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds contained? You get RAID: World War II.

While the release trailer, the creator's pedigree, and the potential setup of the game sound like the material for an excellent online cooperative FPS, the unfortunate truth is the current release isn't much of a worthwhile game. It's currently received mixed reviews on Steam, and the negative ones are consistently pointing out how extremely dated the graphics look, the dumb AI (for both your AI buddies AND the Germans), gun mechanics that feel slightly off and feel lackluster, and a sense that the game is clearly designed for much, much more content to drop and flesh out the game in the future. The serious lack of guns and gear, implied but missing customization options, and how the heroes show lots of inspiration from the Payday gang members hints at that.

And I have to agree with the negative assessment. A few weeks back, I had a chance to play it during a brief open-beta period, and I also shared all of those complaints. In addition, enemy troops spawning from out of nowhere and poor terrain physics (both in how easy it is to get stuck on the terrain, ineffective means of mantling over fences, crates, or rocks, or invisible wall edges that your bullets keep hitting) were further irritations I encountered. It was troublesome enough that I only played for a couple of hours before immediately uninstalling the game.

Well, enough of my opinion - perhaps the gameplay will improve over time. Anybody else here give the game a shot?

The game is already out? I knew it existed and thought it was in early access. A pity if they kicked it out the door too soon.

Is it true that missions end with Hitler throwing tantrums?

[up]Yep, and he's just as incredibly hammy as the guy who portrayed him in Inglorious Basterd's, too. Seriously, this game takes a lot of influence from that movie.
