Well, it isn't a bunch of different concepts. It is just one - Some alternate version of the character is encountered, and the original character is frightened of what they see. The origin of the alternate isn't particularly important.

Yes, because they're a storytelling convention that is used many different times, and retains the same meaning (just a small change in who you are can make a very different person).

This seems like a patchwork of multiple different concepts, from evil twins to future selves to their own present behaviour. By what standard are they lumped into one trope?
