What about the actual cover of Giant Size X-Men #1? The work is already done in it, and it does not require us to make up any new image or collage. Up, obscured and fading into oblivion, the old X-Men team. Below, "jumping to the reader", the dynamic and eye-candy new team of X-Men. Just add a descriptive caption, and it should be fine.

Ultimate Secret WarsI know the cover that you're referring to, but I don't think that would work.
For one thing, the '60s version of the team is in the background and out of focus in that version, so it's really hard to compare them to the newer version. For another thing, the cover prominently features Thunderbird, a pretty obscure character who was Killed Off for Real just a few issues after he was introduced, so that undermines the point that the later version is the more iconic one. And it's also problematic to use a single piece of art by a single artist from a single era, since that isn't really a comparison between eras and styles (which is the point of the trope).
Isn't that cover already being used on another page?
Clock is set.
By my count, we have 5 "Yes" votes. Any objections?
The clock's up and what's on the page is good enough for now. Locking up.
That would be changing it a lot, I meant only change it a little. Like few people instead of "no one" and many people instead of "everyone". (Also just "remembers" is kind of vague.)
