Afro Samurai

So apparently this doesn't have a thread. Pity.

There are two headbands. The first headband is said to make the wearer immortal. Only the person wearing the other one, the Number Two headband, can kill the person with the Number One headband. Many years ago our hero, Afro, saw his father murdered by a man named Justice, who laid claim to the Number One headband. Afro has lived for revenge ever since, carving a bloody path through everyone and everything near him in pursuit of his father's killer. Now that he has the Number Two headband, he's become a target for all of the other people who want to claim the Number One.

That's the plot of the first anime.

The sequel is Afro Samurai Resurrection where after killing Justice, Afro basically "quits" and decides to ignore any challenges to the Number One headband. A pair of figures from his past come back, jack him up, steal his father's corpse, and start the cycle of revenge right back up again.

Revenge is kind of a theme here. A stylish anime series and film that seems like a fusion of Samurai Jack and Black Dynamite. It also had an average video game and a failed sequel that made waves a few years back.
