I want to do an idea with you guys on TV Tropes. I have no idea if you'll like it or not, but if you don't that's OK since this isn't an idea I'm married to or anything.
I love Mons series and I like making my own up from time to time. Since I'm really into Digimon Universe: Applimonsters right now I wanted to make a story that resembled the structure of that but with original monster designs because I don't want to just make fan fiction. The working title of this story is Vanguardians and it centers around the titular creatures and their partners, humans who take up the name Vanguards and fight for justice in a monotonous and creatively corrupt world.
It takes place in a country that seems to be like America but different. All corporate entities have been basically brought under the control of the government, because the leader of the government owns them (like, a vertical to real politics.) There's only one corporation producing all media and all content now and it's all the same and all very bland. The majority of people in the country have acquiesced to consuming this media and propaganda since they fear becoming outcasts or targets. But the Vanguards will not stand for that! They've unlocked these magical creatures they call Vanguardians, and together they work to bring voices to the independent, marginalized and invisible.
There are three types of Vanguardians: Creatives, Activists and Explorers. Creative Vanguardians represent the arts, and are paired with people who are artists in any medium. Activist Vanguardians represent justice, and are paired with people who fight for rights in a political sense. Explorer Vanguards are the hardest to describe. They represent freedom, and are paired with people who long to explore something - literal or figurative. These people are those who love to learn and love to search, and who reject the information blackout of their world. Vanguardians also come in Power Levels, represented by stars. Everyone starts off with a One-Star Vanguardian, although they can evolve somehow... probably through synchronization with their partners. And like Digimon, it's temporary - they can shift between forms given the circumstances.
I've got one design currently and it's the first one I came up with: Iydee. He's an Explorer type and his exploration is of radical self-love in a society that wants to purge everything unique about you. His jester theme reflects the position that jesters held in olden times, being transgressors and fools who moved fluidly between classes. Anddddddd... he's really cute :) That's one thing you gotta know about me, I love cute things!!!! And I will not stop.
So what would be helpful to me... I want to flesh out this story more, via characters (human or creature), plot points, and what exactly the Vanguardians use their powers against (like in Appmon, where they fight other Appmon gone rouge via an evil virus.) Also it's just nice to talk about ideas with other creative people, wouldn't you agree?
