Assuming you're not blind, the best way to write a blind character is to talk with blind people and read things by blind people. I know the blog Actually Blind is run by a prett approachable mod, and you can always see what blind readers have thought of blind characters by searching for it on Disability in Kidlit I already put in the search term for you . Based on what I've read on these sites, blind people are much more capable of getting themselves around and interacting in the world than they are portrayed in media as being.

A person who has been blind all their life is less handicapped than a person who was born sighted, and then loses their sight. After all, you don't miss what you never had, so you don't have to re-learn and compensate for the loss.
