The Mall Interior

Stan shrugged. "Well, I don't think it's like that. That kind of seems close-minded, if you don't mind me saying so. But, then again, I just moved, and I don't want to judge or anything..." Stan really didn't want to make an enemy, if anything, he wanted to make another friend.

Baring its teeth, the Nuckelavee used all the strength in its back legs, and pushed up, jumping as high as it possibly could, trying to vault over the Golem and reach the sewers.

However, Maria-Beatrice was already way ahead of it, and was using her powers to try and block it up. Pieces of debris were closing in on it, ranging from cars to benches.

The horse-monster was, indeed, able to leap over the golem's grasp.

But the telekinetic barrage blocked its way, causing it to drop down, back within Rocky's reach.

The golem grabbed the nuckelavee by one of its hind legs, and proceeded to smash it on the ground with bone-shattering might: Slamm!

He also continued to keep his grip on the leg for good measure.

San Lorenzo, Cornelia's Shop

Cornelia continued to clean up her store, and actually was making good progress. Then after a while she knew she needed a break, so the Centauress decided to go out into the city a bit and relax, although first she went to the stairs, maybe Sammy wanted to come with her so she had to at least ask. From the bottom she shouted up "Sammy? I'm going out into the city for a bit, care to come with me or would you rather stay here?"

For a moment, there was silence in the shop, rather than an immediate response. It was almost worrisome. But then a slow, almost bubbly voice could be heard saying,

"No... thank you... better not..."

San Lorenzo, Cornelia's Store

Cornelia did worry a bit, even after the answer, but in the end decided it was probably nothing. She sighed, looking outside "Okay then, I need to lock the door since I'm away, if you want out, there's a spare key in the drawer of the table with the computer, but please lock the door behind you. I'll be back in a few hours." And with that she took her crutches and went outside, indeed for now locking the door so the store couldn't be looted. Now outside she decided to go to the mall, maybe grab a bite there.

The Mall

The nuckelavee was occupied with Maria-Beatrice and the golem. Hildegard spotted the manhole cover, and with it, the chance to cut off the nuckelavee's escape route. She quickly picked it up and ran towards the manhole, slamming the cover down as hard as she could.

She stood up, arms crossed. "You've got nowhere to run. Surrender and you'll be taken into custody. Continue to fight and, well, it won't end well for you."

She had to shout to hear herself over the noise being made.

The Mall Interior

Sloane hesitated.

She'd be lying if she didn't admit to worrying sometimes about exactly that - dehumanization was the first step to becoming a Nazi, after all.

"You're not wrong. They're still people, and we know that. Hildegard and I - we're just trying to keep the peace. For monsters and humans. Sometimes I'm afraid we're not doing so great on that front." She smiled thinly. "But we're trying."

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" Leopold cried in alarm.

Beyond caring now, the Nuckelavee lunged forward, the horse head opening wide as it tried to bite down on Hildegard. It didn't care if its leg broke off. As long as it could find some way to get out, a hostage maybe, or even just to kill one of his foes, he would be pleased.

Mall

Hildegard dove to the ground to avoid the nuckelavee's strike. She rolled out of the way before standing back up.

The nuckelavee was angry. That meant that he was going to slip up any minute now. He was going to make a mistake any minute now.

The sounds of the battle outside were audible from inside the mall, and Sloane ran out of the mall without another word.

The nuckelavee had no obvious way to escape, but it could easily hurt or even kill Hildegard or anyone else.

"I think it's time to intervene before someone gets hurt," she called out to Ironfoot.

The police captain nodded, then shouted with his megaphone:

"Everyone except the golem get out of range! You stoneman, keep holding the Nuckelavee in one place. Unit one, advance! Unit two, stand by!"

As commanded, a pair of hazmat-suit wearing policeman prepared tasers and ran forward, ready to try and shock the horseman into submission; should that fail, another one, this one holding a grenade launcher, was ready to take it down once and for all.

With seemingly no other options, the Nuckelavee did something unexpected.

It...lay still, letting itself be captured. Truthfully, it was plotting, planning on how it would escape and wreak havoc on San Lorenzo. It would have have revenge.

The Nuckelavee's reaction was surprising to everyone present- but nobody felt like taking risks. Ironfoot gave another signal, and yet a third group of anti-monster cops, this one carrying a set of steel chains that could hold an elephant, moved forward and soon had the being trussed up like a xmas turkey. Shortly after that, it was loaded into an armored truck and taken to parts unknown.

Ironfoot then addressed the humans and monsters that had aided in its capture. "Your efforts are... appreciated" he said. "But next time, just leave everything to us."

"Sure thing, carnal* !" Paco said. "Just remember to tell the press that El Lagarto Verde helped too!" Then he added, "Umm, you should turn off the Mall's fire sprinkler system now, I think."

Hildegard stumbled away from the nuckelavee and Ironfoot and the crowd of people.

A hand rested on her shoulder. Hildegard turned around to see Sloane.

They stood there, unmoving and mute, until Sloane broke the silence by asking "We're the good guys, right?"

Hildegard didn't have to think before she answered "We just helped save the city from toxic drinking water. I think it's safe to say we are."

Sloane smiled, a little bit sadly but sincerely, and she took Hildegard's hand in hers.

"Poison control will be here soon. I think we've done enough for today."

San Lorenzo

Cornelia was strolling through the town, headed towards the mall, not knowing of all the ruckus there.

Mall

Lagarto Verde went around talking everybody who had helped take down the Evil Celtic Centaur. (also reminding everybody he had helped too.)

On the other hand, Seawell Huntly merely sighed in relief that it was over, and just walked away.

Speaking of centaurs, maybe I should check on Cornelia he decided.

Patrick was pretty sore at the moment. The fight had been rough, and it was now just heading back, looking for somewhere to stay for the night.

And then he saw Cornelia. Smiling, he decided to go and talk with her. He urged his horse towards her. "Hey! Cornelia! Good to see you!"
