I was being semi-facetious, but if it gets you to post faster, I'm totally okay with that.

Well, it did get me to post faster, so I suppose I'm okay with that.

Anyhow, Quite, do we have any existing lore on Werewolves in-universe yet?

We know monsters existed, but were not believed in by most people anymore. How did that happen? Presumably they were hunted to near-extinction and hid until recently.

I have an NPC submitted that lost her family when they were attacked by a classmate of hers turned into a werewolf by the M-reactor. (I don't know if I should make the werewolf a full NPC or not.)

Considering the many different and contradictory aspects of werewolf lore, maybe there are different subspecies of werewolves. Like, you've got the Hollywood kind that change with the phases of the moon, the more folkloric kind who can change whenever they want, and other miscellaneous kinds that I can't think of right now, along with differences in weaknesses and what their Wolf forms look like.

Just so you know, finals are becoming a thing, so things will probably slow down on my end over the next two weeks.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hope you do great on your finals, Quite!

Anyhow, proposed thing:

Werewolf Subrace: Half-Fae.

Creation: A Half-Fae Wolf is born when a Fae creature procreates with a regular Werewolf, or a normal wolf while shapeshifted into a animal form.

Features: Half-Fae wolves share characteristics from both of their parents.

Wolf Features: Because of their werewolf traits, Half-Fae wolves have the following traits:

Wolf Form: Naturally, Half-Fae wolves can transform into their wolf form. Some consider this to be their natural form, and some consider their humanoid form to be their default setting. When transformed, a Half-Fae wolf takes the form of a (usually) rather large wolf with Silver or Black fur.

Enhanced Strength and Speed: When not in their wolf forms, Half-Fae wolves are slightly stronger and faster than a normal human on average. When transformed, they are generally as strong and fast as a normal werewolf, give or take. Naturally, some are stronger or weaker than others.

Enhanced Smelling: When in their wolf form, Half-Fae wolves have an amazing sense of smell, just like most werewolf breeds.

Fae Features: In addition to their werewolf traits, Half-Fae wolves also share traits stemming from their Fae ancestry. They gain the following features:

-Misty Escape: Summoning the power of their Fae Bloodline, a Fae Half-Breed can jump short distances, wrapping themselves in silver mist and teleporting to a spot that they can see within thirty feet. This ability is only usable when in their wolf form, and takes a medium amount of energy to accomplish. This happens instantly.

-Enemy of Iron: Like regular Fae, Half-Fae wolves are harmed by Cold Iron. Regular iron just feels cold as ice to them- but Cold Iron burns like acid. A wound inflicted by Cold Iron will take much, much longer to heal, and is extremely painful. The best weapon to use against a Fae-Wolf is Cold Iron, obviously.

Interesting idea. But what would drive Fae and Werewolves to breed? Is it because both tend to live in woods? Somehow I can't see the snootier Fae Higher-Ups approving to this. (Which reminds me, with so many creatures of Celtic Myth in the game we need the Seelie Court to show up at some point. Perhaps in nonhuman forms such as The Green Man to fit in better.)

Also, question: what happened to the werewolves' weakness to silver? Was it overtaken by the Fae's weakness to iron? Shouldn't they have both? Or should they cancel each other?

Well, I admit that I couldn't see Tatiana or Oberon approving of that, I could totally see the Queen of Air and Darkness, Leader of the Unseelie Court- (who I'm going to refer to as Mab, because literally the only piece of literature detailing her, or Fae in any real detail at all, names her like that, and because calling the Queen of Aa D will get annoying real quickly. Pay me calling her Mab no mind- approving wholeheartedly. I mean, it IS the Unseelie Court.

Well, basically, their Fae heritage is usually much stronger than their Lycanthrope heritage- there have been cases of Fae Wolves being vulnerable to iron, at least in my kind of current head-canon for the subrace, but it's almost always one or the other- and usually Cold Iron.

Sure, why not? If we assume that being a were comes with a pack mentality, then its a natural.

I very much apologize for dropping off the face of the Earth. To compensate, here's an extra long post, complete with plot!

For the record, the post takes place after dark, but you're free to continue your current scenes until a timeskip feels more natural.

Concept: Types of Werewolves

There are two main types of werewolves. Let's call them alphas and omegas.

Alphas change with the moon. At new moon, they're fully human. At full moon, they're fully wolves, resembling normal wolves but bigger. Essentially, the closer it is to full moon, the more bestial they are. They can spread their lycanthropy through biting someone on a full moon, and are vulnerable to silver and decapitation.

Omegas can change whenever they want to. Their wolf forms can't really be mistaken for normal wolves, as theirs are anthropomorphic. They share the weaknesses to silver and decapitation.

Other types of werewolves can be referred to as betas, gammas, deltas, and so forth, if anyone has any ideas for other types. (Maybe half-fae wolves are betas?)

Also, I was wondering if maybe I could switch to playing as Hildegard and Sloane (and Myrna)? I'd love to see them interact with the Van Helsings, and I've gotten somewhat more invested in them than previously expected.

Your werewolf ideas are approved, and I am not opposed to the character switch. I didn't have any plans for them, anyway.

EDIT: Cwest's Fae-wolves are also approved.

Concept: Overview of World Vampires

This is by no means as in-depth as it should be, it's mostly just a collection of factoids. I figure we can flesh it out more later.

  • The most well-known and common vampire worldwide - immortals who are vulnerable to sunlight and holy symbols and can shapeshift into bats and mist - originated in Central and Eastern Europe. They soon spread into the rest of Europe and, with the rise of imperialism, the rest of the world. Asia, Africa, and the Americas do have their own subspecies of vampires - such as the jiangshi, adze, and patasola - but many European vampires claim they don't qualify as not vampires, and many of these vampires themselves don't identify as vampires. The main similarity is the consumption of blood (or chi).

  • The vampire population of Europe has been functionally destroyed following Mina Van Helsing's rise to power. Most West European vampires are dead, and most East and Central European vampires have fled the continent.

  • The most prominent remaining vampire in Europe is Countess Karnstein, who resides in Austria. She's been keeping her head down, but even she's considering leaving the continent if it means survival for herself and her coven.

  • The oldest vampire in the Americas is Citlali, an Aztec (well, Mexica) girl who was ten years old when conquistadors came, including vampire Miguel de Orozco, . She currently resides on a horse ranch in Southern California.

  • In Africa, European vampires dominate the West, North, and South. Vampires in East Africa have never been able to gain much of a foothold due to the presence of indigenous vampires such as the asanbosam and the adze, and when they do, violence typically ensues.

  • Asia is mostly home to indigenous vampires: jiangshi, mandurugo, mananaggal, penanggalan, leyak, ab, uttukku, estrie, and ekimmu. European-style vampires do exist there, but they're a distinct minority.

  • Australia and Oceania have one of the smallest vampire populations. They don't have many indigenous vampires, and few to no European vampires. However, with the recent havoc in Europe, many vampires are emigrating to Australia, reasoning that it's the perfect place to make a new start.

Wow, that's great research and ideas Emily. My favorites are the Chinese Jumping Vampires (with their Chi-draining touch) and the penanggalan (which has a head that flies off instead of turning into a bat.) Funny how so many disparate cultures had similar concepts of blood-sucking undead.

In any case I hope some or all this stuff gets used!
