Hmm, current is a better illustrates of how the trope can play out. It doesn't show the target though. I am on the fence.

I prefer the current, although more because I don't like the suggestion than because I like the current.
Check out my fanfiction!I think you can take the first two panels and make it work. After all, Hitler fighting back and being undefeatable to time travelers does illustrate the trope.
keep current
So this would be better?
It's so much smaller when it's... smaller. I wanted to make it one panel because the original comic is so big, but this actually seems like a better size now that I see it.

I like that one better than either of mine. Its terseness makes the attempt seem more futile.

Second panel itself can suffice.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I like 7.
Post 8 works quite well.

There seems to be enough consensus for 8.
The current image is clearly part of a larger scene and thus kind of confusing at first glance. That did make it easy for me to remember, but the image also doesn't really make it clear that the trope is specifically about time travelers failing to improve the world by stopping Hitler, so for a long time I had to check back every time I saw a link to it to recall whether it was about that or just the attempt itself.
Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal loves to play with this trope, and the image I'm suggesting comes from one of its strips. I had to splice the captions a bit to make it as to-the-point as possible, so hopefully that's allowed (and, um, legal). I do feel like this version reads a bit strangely, but that may just be me being the one who made it.
