After having seen at least two different webcomic websites, and having thought to myself "why can't my fanfic work have that kind of stuff", i have to ask, how do you make webcomics happen?

What do you need to do to get artists interested in a non-profit endeavor like this? How do you get people's attention? Etc...

[up] Do you mean as a tutorial? Or as a How to make a webcomic? Take into account that some of the questions did get addressed on the "I've got a webcomic do you?" thread, but if you want something specific care to ask the specifics?

This might not be what you want to hear, but the best way to make a webcomic happen is to be an artist, not just a writer.

There's absolutely zero motivation for any artist to draw what someone else tells them to draw. It's much more fun to draw what you want to draw than what someone else wants you to draw.

The only practical way to turn your writing ideas into a comic is to make the art yourself. Can't draw, you say? That didn't stop me. That didn't stop Ryan North. That didn't stop Randall Munroe. Or Emily Horne and Joey Comeau. Or any of dozens of other webcomic artists who are actually out there now and making comics, like they want to do.

If you really want to do it, knuckle down and think of a way to make your own artwork. It doesn't even need to be drawing. Use photography, or screencaps, or 3D rendering. Do it, rather than lament about how you can't do it. That's what it takes.

If you just write the script and rely on someone else to draw the thing, unless you're doing a true collaboration where both writer and artist exchange ideas about where they want the story to go, you'll have to pay whoever you hire on to draw the damn thing. But not all of us are that rich, and it's not a very good situation to be in if you're the writer. But if you can write and draw, you should be pretty much good to go.

There are always collaboration posts on the forums of Tapas where writers, artists, etc. seek each other out (some paid, some unpaid). I'd recommend that if that is your last resort.

I practiced drawing before I even thought of starting my webcomic. I've been drawing seriously since around 2010 or 2011, but I do realize not everyone has the time or patience.

On TED Talks (Or TED Ed, maybe?), I do recall seeing a really cool video on how basically anyone can draw. The characters being drawn are just simple cartoon characters, but it's a start. I can try to find that for you if you wish.

Some webcomics also start with really primitive art and improve as they go along - all it takes is just years of nose down to the grindstone.

Though it requires "learn how to draw" to actually be your goal, rather than just "I want to have a webcomic". But on the other hand, getting popular with your webcomic is also a matter of just putting in the years of trying, so the difference is a tad immaterial.

Should make a small note before continuing:

Please follow this inside link so you want to write a webcomic.

Thing is that what has been said so far is giving me an idea but I will need to do so after some stuff I have to do today, as the extra tips not covered in the first drafts, for extra information look into the so you want to write a webcomic page and the other one in the forums around the "I have a webcomic" topic which has information related.
