She's not the only one. See you, Space Despair Girl.
I liked her before that, now I like her even more. I know the sensation of being tired with misery, not in a such extreme and exagerated way, of course.

RealidadeOkaaay...? I was not expecting Monika to exit like THAT. Kinda funny though.
Best part was the cute little fart in the general direction of a serial killer.
RealidadeLOL Monaka. Well done. Best line was definitely "Komaeda-senpai turned me into an adult". Talk about getting lucky
Kirigiri has just gotten a target painted on her, which practically ensures her survival. Not that that was in question.

For this ending to have any impact to me, either her or Naegi have to die.
RealidadeDespair 7:
That is really not how I expected the first meeting between Junko and Mikan to turn out. So much for fanon. And oh, look, Nanami's still alive.
Hey, you know what'd spice up this slice of life series about schoolmates? VIOLENT MURDERS
I won't be watching that part again.
Nanami's death countdown: I have no idea.
My thread for today and one of my old Kirigiri memes after it.
Nothing to really comment because the episode was basically pure random gore, but I somehow actually managed to enjoy that scene because Junko picked a song I knew, so I was able to sing along the entire time.
Wow...things got brutal.
I'm glad they did. The entire series was essentially tiptoeing around these events, and now they don't have to be coy about it anymore.
Yeah. The student council spilled pepto-bismol everywhere and Juzo is the third wheel.
YOU'RE TEARING ME APART, CHISA! Oh hai, Munakata.
Ha ha ha. What a story, Mark.Anime is a mistake.
RealidadeI like how the episode starts with Junko saying that more or less.
THE FUTURE 7:
Hey there, former Warriors of Hope.
Komaru and Touko/Genocider, kicking butt just like the not-so-distant good ol days. And you can say she has complete mastery of that megaphone.
Outmanned and outgunned, Komaru and Touko had an uphill battle ahead of them. And thus Monaca decided...to throw in the towel! Her reasons for quitting were amusing. Well, she wouldn't be Junko's successor if she didn't feel bored at some point. That, and Nagito truly is a lifesaver.
Ah, so Gekkouharabot was the one behind Aoi's death prank. Monaca's way of signalling to Makoto that someone's gonna die. And I can't help but think it's Kyoko. And with Monaca's departure, Miaya Gekkouhara dies once more.
THE DESPAIR 7:
Wow Ryouta, you have quite the power. It would be a shame if someone were to misuse it...
Heh, it's kinda cool that Mikan's helping the cause. ...Wait, no it's not! I wonder if she was the first to fall to despair...
Aha, that incident. It was despairingly brutal. And then the Reserves learned of a despair-inducing truth. Now, IT BEGINS!
Oh, so Kizakura running into Kyoko wasn't just a mere whim...
I don't think Mecha Miaya is "dead". I think Komaru took control of her and is in the game now.
Alright. This series has me confused again. I'll blame it on not playing the second game (but reading spoilers about it before DR 3 was announced) and not playing Ultra Despair Girls. I'm up to Episode 3 of both DR 3 D and F.
Pardon me if this is a bit arrogant, but I don't see the point of the Despair Arc. It's a side story/prequel about the main characters of DR 2. These characters didn't really seem to matter except in DR 2.
Let's see if I've got this lore right:
- There was a school called Hope's Peak for Japan's best and brightest. Students have special talents, "Super High School Little Sister" WTF
- Junko Enoshima (Natsumi? went to this school.
- Junko proceeded to f'ck up the rest of her class and create Ultimate Despair, an organization of teenage terrorists. (da' f'ck?)
- Ultimate Despair caused the great heretofore unexplained but irreconcilably catastrophic terror event known as "The Tragedy."
- The Tragedy sets up the events of DR 1 where Junko hosts a murder game.
- Junko is aided by her sister, whatsherface, who poses as Junko but is killed by Junko early in the game.
From here I think I've got it - Junko dies, pulls a Return Of The Joker in DR 2, the DR 2 cast is actually the rehabilitated Ultimate Despair group. The events of DR 2 lead into DR 3 F, where UD is no longer a threat.
So then:
- Who are Sato/Natsumi supposed to be in DR 3 D?
- Junko has a sister who she switched places with in DR 1 right? I'm thinking Sato is supposed to be her, but I don't remember what the sister's name was.
- Chisa and her husband were conducting some kind of investigation into what Junko was doing at Hope's Peak?
- If the Future Foundation was founded in reaction to Junko's actions, why is there some government plot/organization already established during the Despair arc? Why is Hajime receiving an artificial talent?
- Why are we supposed to care about Chisa's story and how her students became UD? Is this somehow tying back into the Future arc? So far
none of these characters appear to have any impact on the Future arc.except for Chisa, so unless she's not really dead it's mysterious how she's come back as the protagonist.
Despair's opening scene - with Chisa commenting on her death in Future Arc. Clearly this is meant to be connected. Are they just Leaning on the Fourth Wall for fun? If I were to guess, the real antagonist of the Future Arc is going to be revealed as a different character in the Despair Arc. But it doesn't seem that way so far. It doesn't feel like it's setting something up; it feels like it's just an origin story. This could've been a side story like that one where Junko wiped her memories so she could participate in a prototype Murder Game.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Natsumi and Sato aren't related to Junko at all. Junko's sister is named Mukuro. The SHSL little Sister is BS that Natsumi was trying to use to get into the main course- she, Sato and Hajime are Reserve Course Students, which means they payed their way into a 'in name only' version of Hope's Peak. It's basically a scam Hope's Peak is running to fund their shady experiments- which is what Chisa's there to investigate. Junko isn't in the picture at all yet- she and the rest of DR1 cast are a year behind the DR2 cast, and therefore haven't enrolled yet.
Most of us already care about finding out how the students became UD, because they were the protagonists of the second game.
"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."So Natsumi's a diva for the sake of being a diva. From Natsumi's entrance in the 2nd episode, I figured she'd have a larger role.
This is in no way related to The Tragedy or Ultimate Despair then? Junko conjured that all on her own? And the old guy who is in this arc and the Future arc, he's just as shady as he looks then.
This wasn't explained in the second game then? I took "Junko corrupted them" for granted given the already vague concepts such as "Super [whatever skill or talent]" and "The Tragedy where Junko infected people with Despair."

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!DR 2's last chapter reveals that the DR 2 character are actually the Remnants of Despair, who lost their memories to take part in a therapy process to make them sane and functioning human beings again.
Imouto is a title used in yakuza sindictates. If Fuyuhiko could get in for being a yakuza (which I personally think he shouldn't), it makes sense for Natsumi. ... Except DR 3 retconed that by revealing Super High School Level Little Sister is a title Natsumi herself made up and she and her brother are the only ones who acknowledge it.
Yes. Junko studying there was established since DR 1. Also, I don't see how these two character are connected to each other.
Exactly.
It's vaguely explained in everything that came after DR 1 and it kinda feels enough to me, but YMMV.
Correct.
Yes. The sister gets a little bit more characterization here in Side:Despair.
Characters from Mahiru and Kuzuryuu's backstory who are slightly relevant in the second trial.
Name's Mukuro. Means "corpse".
No. Junko is not in the picture until episode 5. They are investigating whatever shady stuff the school is doing. Which is human experimentation to artificially turn an ordinary talentless person into a super human with every single talent they ever studied in the main school. The subject on that project is Hinata.
Because the school is shit and artificial talent has been its secret goal ever since it was founded.
We are supposed to care because their game is the most popular entry of the franchise (and in my personal opinion the best). It does tie to Side:Future in a few points, but it works more as an origin story for the entire franchise rather than just to one side. Most fans are having the exact opposite questions: "Why are we supposed to care about Side:Future". But we still don't have enough information to tell how closely connected the two parts are.
We know that as much as you do. My personal guess is just a meta joke.
I mean, I wouldn't say Junko conjured it all on her own or that it's completely unrelated- she ends up exploiting Hope's Peak's corruption in a lot of ways and has a fair bit of help- but yeah.
And it's explained in the vaguest terms- the 'all our protagonists turned evil and destroyed the world in the years they forgot' is a bombshell dropped on the audience during the endgame- the bombshell which in turn serves as the answer questions about the similarly placed revelation at the end of first game. Which is to say that Junko was able to cause the apocalypse because she was able to turn very Talented people in powerful places- Sonia controls a country, Kuzuryuu controls the Yakuza, Souda can build a robot army etc, etc- turning Hope's Peak schtick against the world. But the question then, of course, becomes 'how did she turn those people'?

"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."On the subject of Sato and Natsumi, what happened to them is important in the second game because it gives the second murderer their motive. It's a pretty big piece of backstory and a lot of people were curious about it, which is probably why Natsumi got the fanfare she did. Anyone who played SDR 2 would know what's going on instantly.
Caught up with the animes, so now i'll comment briefly on both episode 7's.
- Future: Basically the continuing adventures of the Absolute Despair Girls I see. So because of how Monaca gave up on becoming the second Junko, Nagito indirectly finishes off Ultimate Despair. I never thought it would play out that way.
- Despair: Seeing the student council turn on each other like that was interesting. Pretty devious to frame Hinata and imply the School was covering up to save themselves. That would cause a riot, no matter what.
