Yeah, I didn't know I needed an account until I downloaded the file myself. So there's just a universal database of Dwarf Fortress saves? Spiffy.

Okay, I never got to it last night. Plans went later than expected and I just wasn't in the mood for something I had to write and play together.

I will probably pop the file open and take pictures. Pretty sure no one else has been doing it, and I'm sure pics of everything would be nice.

Those are the pics of the fortress. Some of those pictures I know the background on for sure. Not sure about some of them. I haven't named them, but I'm hoping Rotpar can give us a rundown of what we're seeing.

The big cross-shaped trench up top is the foundation I was digging for the newer, bigger, curse-free temple. The new stuff Rotpar added from my turn were the oblisks on the surface and the rooms below the hospital level.

Nifty. Wednesday's probably going to be my first actual play day. It's the only day I've got where no one else wants any of my time. In the meantime, I might download the new Armok viewer and take a pic of the whole thing in 3D so we can actually see what these things look like.

  • Surface level.
    • The Edim Plaza is a road made of diorite blocks and copper bars. Edim takes on the form of a dwarf so I made a big dwarf icon with copper sun beams around the outline.
    • The obelisks are made of diorite blocks and were intended to stash our artifacts at the top and protect them from thieves.
    • When I said I'd crucify the vampire, I meant it. I was planning on building a two-level platform along the Plaza with an outdoors chain, figure out who the real vampire was and jail him in the daylight where others could see him.

  • Most of my work was on this floor.
    • The library is very much a work in progress and was supposed to have multiple halls with book alcoves and reading rooms. I was hoping to start book construction and writing if I could, and have Rotpar just churn out Edim bibles. In the meantime I was thinking of actually collecting books.
    • I like catacombs and the baron was bitching about needing a tomb, so we bury dwarves in coffins, remember them with slabs, bury the guys important enough to demand a tomb, and toss the rest of our corpses along the floor.
    • The big Edim Temple is an amphitheater, I didn't get a chance to finish the seating. Again it's the dwarf face icon but I didn't finish the outline because I couldn't figure out what furniture/construction would produce it and not block access—the eyes and mouth are slabs because I forgot those are memorials. I envisioned it as a raised dais but didn't raise it a z-level higher, maybe I should have. My quarters are here as well.

There are Edim-related engravings everywhere. Like most rooms have at least three, I placed them at the entrances of corridors and corners, I went nuts.

[up]Will do, Journeyman. I've also noticed we've been getting a bit of a trend with the overseers... and it'll be one heck of a way to try and explain how I became overseer again, considering how bad publicity my dwarf has (if I'm not mistaken).

In either case, I look forward to my next turn as overseer.

4th Slate, 223:

...and so, another reign has come to be... that I have taken the reign of this place that reviles me. Through words of the public, several overseer candidates had not taken to their throne... Perhaps, the reports of an assassin would be what have caused them to step down, afraid of their own lives? Maybe they had a little too much rum? Even perhaps, they thought I of all people could redeem myself of being cursed... still... the short of it... I've risen up to the challenge of taking the helm at overseership again... to atone for my miserable luck last reign. Some people might have been all right with me on this taking of a reign, yet others... probably those too drunken... took to the whole "Being the overseer'll be the death of you and everyone here!". There is one thing I have to say...

I have nothing left to lose, except my life, and that is one thing I have decided to put on the line again.

(On a non-dwarf point, I'll probably see about doing a season a day where I can, so... yeah. If I go on that schedule, Labor day should be the day I finish my work.)

I'm still procrastinating on Deller's IC log from the end of Rotpar's run but I'm toying with the idea of having her complicit in spreading the rumor that Rotpar was the vampire. She'll find him innocent but she's not about to give him the overseer's office back.

Also toying with the idea of turning NES Gamer into a useful stooge. Less sure about that one.

...and so, I finish up the Spring segment. It does bring about the journals of how the Spring segment came about.

7th Slate, 223:

In the midst of going ape about the situation at hand and setting up a temple of rulership for my deity, I had accidentally tapped into the caves again, and got reports of silk, but I had to deliver the order to reseal the caves, out of fear of getting the world into a terrible state. I had asked the mayor on how she's been, and got word that she's been without a drink for far too long. I suspect something is amiss... could it be some ritual from one of the deities? Could the lack of rooms and all be another sign as well of something I'm missing? Either way, I have taken to getting some of the animals handled, as I cannot even fathom the capacity of the pastures that we would need to hold all of these yaks and voracious grazers. I need some rum... this is driving me up a wall...

I have also gotten a couple slabs as a haunt or two had been going about, giving the living some hassle. I do hope they can rest well, especially with the slabs close to their contained area.

23rd Slate, 223:

The main fort entry is finally nearing completion... I do feel bad for Rotpar's works for Edim with the diorite and copper road, but having someplace the crusaders cannot climb into or fly into is a bit more of a priority. As I went to the werebeast handling chamber, I heard an agonized roar, signifying me that a full moon was in. Noticing how someone was crazy enough to set up cage traps to totally block off the trade wagons, I was not amused, and considered my options of giving whoever designed the cages their wish, yet also grant my hope of an easy in for traders. Perhaps, a trap moat may be in the cards?

In any case, I've decided to revamp the mist shrine in hopes of not having another werecoati incident...

2nd Felsite, 223:

The Ettin Strusnu Nonusmox has come! A giant humanoid monster with two heads. A lone crusader has come to defile our sacred land... This will not be tolerated... evacuation orders have been delivered for the dwarves to get within the stronghold, whilst the archers head for the shooting towers within the entry point. I have already regretted the removal of the cage traps, but I shall not let that shortcoming be the undoing of the entire stronghold. From what I could see, it pursued after a water buffalo that was not of our possession. Can't blame me on this one, fortgoers!

Catten Lilarkol had been drained of all her blood, a dead husk of her former glory... I am not pleased, and two witnesses were here: A child by Id ingizmishos, who called out the mayor, yet the mayor also claims to have witnessed it, and blames Rith Rakustzoz, a cook. Proceeding to confront Bloody Meng on this, and putting two and two together... I fear I have found our blood-eating fiend, posing as a mayor! Seeing as how Meng wasn't with drink for a while, and convicted a vampire, and how the Mayor hadn't remembered her last drink... I think my redemption begins with the murder of the mayor... definitely a low blow to my public relations, but... maybe I can make it look like an accident, and not take the blame for killing off the evil mayor... or otherwise render the vampire unable to do a thing...

This was sadly only a medical hypothesis, but it is one I am willing to risk, not just for me, but for the entire holy land... In all my altruism though, I intend to isolate the mayor from the rest of the world... for her to forever be sealed away in agony. There is no need for a case by the captain of the guard and all, but I can still let dwarven justice have its sway for now. Should she still survive, I shall exile her from the fort's works in a very minor chamber. If all else fails though, termination of the vampire will be had.

3rd Felsite, 223:

The Ettin has failed to cause harm to baby mules and livestock... collapsing in exhaustion surprisingly enough. I have taken this as a sign to go in for the kill with everyone I got. The miner in Kumil Sarveshtomem had gotten the Ettin terminated. I had personally praised him on a job well done on terminating the vile crusader. Nonetheless, I have gone to convict the Mayor for her vile murder. Her sentence? 50 strikes with the hammer from the Hammerwidow Tun Itdunzefon. Strike true terror into her, grand hammerwidow.

5th Felsite, 223:

Wait! You mean to say the vampire mayor is not dead? Hammerwidow, thou hast disappointed me dearly... however, I do have another means to render her not a threat... a confining chamber near the waterfall! I requested this of the miners to dig her accomodations and stat, giving the masons a head's up that they will have to build in the near future once more. I know it is unusual of me to trust a child over an adult, but I find that the culprit would probably try to shift the blame upon someone else by claiming to be a witness, so I've decided that confinement behind the waterfall shall be her punishment eternal, in spite of her light sentence of 50 hammerstrikes that seemed to not happen.

8th Felsite, 223:

Curses! One of our number had fallen within the waterfall, and it was not the vampiric mayor! Alas, I fear another slab will be needing use as a memorial for the fallen. This is perhaps a nominal fee for all I have done with the fort early on. I still was booed for the loss of someone, but I hadn't a concern of the public... I was concerned with the well-being of everyone I could help... and there are some who sadly cannot be helped. In any case, I had managed to confine the vampiric mayor behind the waterfall after one of the dwarves decided to tidy up the vampiric mayor's room of any vomit. At least she'll enjoy the mist for the remainder of her days.

If my guess proves wrong, and she was indeed not a vampire, my case continues silently... and I shall inform the next overseer if I do not catch the true vampire, then I've to entrust them on the task, and to tell them to trust no dwarf who hasn't had a drink in a seriously long time.

22nd Felsite, 223:

The werebeast has gone into a state of lunacy from the howl, and there isn't a thing I can do for the tormented one... With redoing the mist shrine, I am feeling more relieved by the second as it gets built up to be a small, yet useful chamber. Hopefully, the dwarves will be most pleased with the remodeling I am doing so no fiend can enter it. Soon, Spring will be over, and the real test of time will begin for the mayor. Child witness, if you are indeed right on your accusation, then I shall say you are the true hero... the blessed one of us all to have aided in the banishment of such a vile fiend.

I have also ordered the slab to the drowned hunter to be the slab to replacing the regular slab of the old attempt at the shrine. Mayhaps, with dedicating the shrine to the fallen, it may yet help us to bring good luck with the new shrine, and bring goodwill to the community. I am still being cautious of the tree demand the elves had demanded of us... of the 129 trees permitted to cut, I have felled none thus far.

(The summary of the Spring wrap-up: I found our vampire problem with the Mayor, and the dwarven justice system gave her parole way too easily. Also, an Ettin tried to terrorize the fort to absolutely no avail, surprisingly enough. Lastly, two dwarves had died during Spring due to unfortunate situations I could not have prevented. Not a whole lot of extra was done, aside from hunting down the vampire, and revamping the mist shrine, and putting some spooks to rest.)

3rd Hematite, 223:

...just as I was about to begin my thoughtful meditation on how best to rule this place, a kobold had been spotted, with her intent to steal from the holy land. I apologize, dear creature, but there is no such thing as a free relic. She promptly fled upon being found, and I took that as her getting the message and not taking a chance with the military. (It still could be better, that military...)

Nonetheless, I fear with the constant mentions of logs being needed, trees will be felled... but not so many as to make the elves disgusted with me. It is a sad truth that some of the trees do have to fall in the name of rulership, but perhaps, it is for the best. It also is a bit counterintuitive of me to even fathom braving the caves again, but perhaps, I can take from the previous disaster and not repeat what happened in my last reign.

In any case, the new mist shrine's (knock on fungiwood) completed, and will not be prone to disaster by troublesome vermin.

7th Hematite, 223:

Seeing the fort every time I walk around, I am not only reminded of my victory over the mayor with my unlikely gambit, but also just how... unorthodox the structure of the stronghold is. It saddens me that my cave discovery with the old attempt at the rulership temple chamber has ended up invalidating one of the other overseer's plans by virtue of water. Perhaps, I should have paid more attention to just how deep I was going. It was not going to matter too much, not with what my next plan was... besides, I don't like water too much.

The mayor's mandate for a solitary bracelet was also fulfilled, so I opted to send her a message that even though she can keep being mayor, she will not defeat the holy land's capacities to thwart her mandates. This was a minor victory in comparison to detaining her properly where the hammerwidow failed... still, a victory nonetheless. It does bring up one more thing... now what do I build?

10th Hematite, 223:

Human diplomat... which means the caravan is soon due... Kinda unfortunate the Diplomat's here first... I'm no man for hearing diplomacy... Perhaps, the diplomat'll have fun with the baron. I've more pressing matters, such as keeping the fort alive.

13th Hematite, 223:

Erith Zefonuz brought about a boy to the holy land. A fortunate event after having had a couple losses of civilians. Though the holy land has blood spattered upon it, it is but a necessary evil... the great one of rulership was aware the world has flaws.

Not long after, the caravans had made their arrival! It is time to trade, my comrades! The holy humans have sought to exchange goods! Though... Eww! Who left the ettin corpse inside the fortress to rot and stink up the place?!? Out! Out! Either way, a few crafts had been traded for drink, silver whips and iron long sword, cloth, and food. I had not much need for other materials for now. Perhaps, the dwarven caravan brings better promise, but the humans did fairly well nonetheless.

22th Hematite, 223:

Hello, diplomat of humanity. Do you truly have lot to discuss? Or is it a merely succinct meeting? Judging from the compliment of the holy ground, I suspect not much is up with the discussions. Ah well... no time to be lost after all, I guess. Word has it that from Splashteal, several years earlier, The Group of Robustness gave up their occupation of the site. I wonder if they were beset by crusaders, and a bit of worry has overcome me. Though, aside from the news and compliment, the diplomat ran off without many more words, aside from saying it was an honor to talk with the noble. Taking a look at where the ettin corpse is, I was disgusted once more when my foot landed in the rotter's mouth. Seriously, guys! This is a little irrational to dump the carcass in the fort's high-traffic area! Ugh!

Evidently, Meng had become mayor all of a sudden, and requested two crossbows. I'll get right to it! I'm sure you'll appreciate the crossbows we make! After all, you did help with the capture of the second vampire, so I have no qualms about fulfilling your mandate, though freedom sadly isn't in the cards. Ghost? I don't see any... Agh! Ghost! Get the slabs! Stat!

3rd Malachite, 223:

Another day, another ghost put to rest... How many more must get such a treatment? Looking back at the fortress, I wonder what I can do in the downtime. I know a holy land’s supposed to be welcoming to all, but why are we without others from the other lands? I would not have minded a few elves or humans around here long-term, but I never did inquire a couple things… probably best to ask at the end of Summer. In any case, some surface farms seem due, if only out of being able to make use of the humans’ plant products to the fullest capacities.

14th Malachite, 223:

Some migrants arrived, despite the danger, according to a passing dwarf. I asked of “What danger?”, and got not an answer, lest they hinted at the two vampires that are confined. If my science was right, a normal dwarf would be agonized greatly with being confined behind a waterfall with only the mist to drink at best, and I don’t think mist’d be filling enough to appease one’s thirst… Either way, I’m pleased to see nobody dying for once. I was getting bothered about the deaths as much as the next dwarf was. Let us hope the migrants are not vampiric in nature.

Noticing some of the dwarves had some other military skills, I had decided it may be due time for another squad, and to enlist any hammerdwarves to the task of the temple guard, but the other weapon users shall be brought into the new metal armor group. As the count of dwarven holy people increased, Onget Ingishvosut showed signs of possession. I shall keep an eye upon Onget, just in case the silk incident occurs again. I am 99% confident that the holy land shall be 200 strong soon enough.

16th Malachite, 223:

Ognet has claimed a craftsdwarf’s workshop. Oh, for the love of Armok and the deity of rulership, don’t be silk incident again! There also was a gap in the fort that would have given crusaders an easy entry point, and thus, I ordered it to be walled off. Nice try, crusaders, but the latest migrants have shown me the way they got in, and helped to patch up this gap.

Meng also forbidden quivers from being traded away for anything, lest he earns himself an inmate, to which, I have also complied with. I found Meng to be more agreeable than the former mayor who’s behind a waterfall.

18th Malachite, 223:

Ognet has begun construction on the artifact. Though it is probably going to be a most disappointing trinket, I can pray still for a good piece of furniture.

23rd Malachite, 223:

Ognet, you disappoint me. You provided only an earring… what an extravagant waste of such valuable resources! The deities will be mad with thee! At least Jasin’ll be pleased with the artifact, Ognet. In any case, back to making more rooms for the 200 citizens, and possibly more.

On another case, we are down to 92 trees before the elves show their disappointment to the holy land, and consider the holy land to be a potential enemy. Alas, I have to be more cautious with the trees, lest I lose a potential ally and gain an enemy.

18th Galena, 223:

Jasin has requested a solitary bucket for the mandate. No problem at all! I’m giving the order to make just a solitary bucket of wood for ya! Being honest, if I keep getting easy mandates, I’ll be happy for the nobles. Either way, I suspect things will simmer down.

1st Limestone, 223:

Autumn has arrived, and I stand prepared to inquire now at what to do. I’ve thwarted the vampiric problems, the caves have been sealed, the restless haunts were put to rest, and the mist shrine’s in proper working order. Perhaps, I’m due to pass the reign down to someone for now? Finish the term? I’m... lost at a lack of better words, after having solved the crisis and whatnot.

(Apologies about not finishing before Labor day or the full 7 days, but car maintenance and family issues had bogged me down. As for the summary of Summer, finally hit 200 civilians, started a surface crop farm, and got an artifact earring. Also of note was the skinless alligator forgotten beast finally going down to blind cave ogres, starting with a couple toes, before the skinless one bled out presumably. Not sure if we have any more active forgotten beasts roaming about.

I do have two minor inquisitions though: First, what all shall I build now? Second, I haven't seen anything about a tavern being explicitly forbidden, but I'm going to presume the presence of a tavern is prohibited?

Lastly, I'm not afraid to hand over the save if it is indeed a time over for my reign.)

If no one else objects, you can go til Spring starts. Assuming nothing goes south in your remaining time, consider yourself redeemed for all the problems your last reign brought down upon us.

And I'm okay with a tavern, long as everyone else is.

1st Limestone, 223:

After having asked about the tavern, and getting ‘’no’’ disagreement about its construction, I have taken it upon myself to devise a tavern for the fortress. A grand circle it shall be, but I do intend to make use of a few small chambers at the sides of the main room for storage, and possibly lodging for the visitors of the holy lands. My reasoning for this lies in the fact there might be others who seek to join our holy land that are ‘’not’’ dwarven, and perhaps, even a goblin refugee or two. This might also attract military men, which might help fill the ranks more to boot. I feel the god of rulership will be pleased with my work. After all, drink is a part of religion, right?

3rd Limestone, 223:

Another kobold thief tries to filch a good from us… and again, they are chased off. I’d not mind a kobold who’d come here for holy purposes. The little humanoids are quite agile, and I think they aren’t a threat at all, truth be told.

15th Limestone, 223:

Dwarven caravan ho! It is time to trade with the ones who had sent us on this holy trek in the first place! It is unfortunate that the dwarves seem sluggish to get things to work, but I might leave a note for the ‘’next’’ overseer to possibly do something regarding the links. I feel the links may be slowing the work more than it is benefitting. Then again, I was never a believer of the link of stockpile to stockpile.

Jasin also demanded 2 buckets to be built. If you insist, Jasin, though is it truly necessary we seek more buckets? At least ya stopped the trade ban. A great deal of food, along with some metal and cloth was traded for with a bit of the goods for sale.

I even thought a few more workshops may have been due, and perhaps, a more organized structure may be due? The chaos of the workshops… appalls me. I know my system of organization might ‘’not’’ be tailored for the specialized workshops, but having a couple general purpose stockpiles and workshops wouldn’t be a bad idea that are ‘’not’’ in that knot of chaos.

21st Limestone, 223: Another day, another birth. I am not bothered, considering I am confident the dormitory can handle any form of overflow population if necessary. In any case, the first thing I planned to do for the new system is to make some carpenter’s workshops. Beds are important, and wood can make many furniture items! It is true the elves have us on a tree limit, but as long as we do not breach the contract, we should be okay to trim some trees. An uneasy treaty, but a treaty I can manage for the remainder of my reign.

27th Limestone, 223:

We have a bronze crusader afoot! All dwarves to sanctuary! Stat! The Bronze colossus by the name of Duthtish Dalzatalath Togalikud has sought to slaughter the holy land! This… cannot be approved. It also is a chance to try the security system against a sole crusader. Unfortunately, the dwarven liaison thought it was a wonderful idea to remain outside in an attempt to make a meeting happen… I am afraid the leadership deity would be disappointed with the death of an important figure, but the military is still ‘’not’’ to my liking, and the public will not like me for this, but I bring up the detail of would they rather the fort die off to a bronze crusader, or the liaison. It was a mistake I made ‘’before’’ with the moody one who sought silk, but I was ‘’not’’ about to make the same mistake. With my apologies, Liasion, but I do not think you were wise to remain outside the security that is the holy fort.

Perhaps it is fortunate, but also unfortunate, but the dwarven liaison has shortly after left unhappy. It is a sad detail, but I could understand why the liaison wanted ‘’nothing’’ to do with the fort this year, with the crusader assailing us.

The Bronze Crusader… was caught without the need to raise the drawbridge… I am impressed with how the colossus was thwarted without the need to pull the lever. Either way, the workshops that are independent are starting to be built. Hopefully, success can be had in breaking a bit of the jam due to the unorderly system we have! Sometimes, simple is best, people! There is a reason we can specify orders to use certain materials, no?

9th Sandstone, 223:

The tavern’s ‘’not’’ quite ready yet, but the skeletal rooms are ready. Being true, the citizens were… actually regaining a couple smiles for a reign well done up to this point. At the very least, I can foresee myself ‘’not’’ getting chased off the position of overseer like last time, but I still have a couple nightmares regarding that problematic reign. Perhaps, my position as surgeon has me in a spotlight of surgically fixing a couple problems. Hopefully, the holy lands will not take too poorly to my partial cage line to allow traders in, though a relocation of said trade depot may soon be necessary anyway, considering some of the merchants seek to be upon the drawbridge, right at the point where all that’d be left if the lever was pulled would be a red, pulpy mess… That still gives me shivers.

17th Sandstone, 223:

I feel bad for having left us without much of a chance for getting iron ores due to the bronze colossus, but with the surprisingly sparse approach of crusaders, I suspect the holy land might be respected by many civilizations. However, I cannot rest easy just because of the low quantity of crusaders. They tend to make up for in quality.

On another note, Meng had ended his mandate once again, and a sigh of relief is had. Quivers are now eligible for being trade goods for now… I also decided to put some of the more recently grown up dwarves to work, having a couple more carpenters in the mix, considering the frightening scarcity of carpenters!

3rd Timber, 223:

Jasin has requested some goods be made… what’s it gonna be this time? Buckets? No problem! As for Meng’s request, I took one drink of my rum, and it evacuated after reading it. ‘’Three’’ quivers?!? Maybe this is why ya got the bloody nickname… Either way, dispatching orders to make things happen. God of rulership, guide me through this autumn and winter. I know I shouldn’t have another drink of rum, but I think I might just need it.

On another note, the surface farms are showing promise of more sustenance, but ‘’also’’ some fabric. I wonder how the citizens will feel about possible rope reed clothing…

13th Timber, 223:

Tulon Inodudib shows a fey mood. Oh, I do hope this won’t end terribly… This might haunt me again… I don’t seek to be haunted. She headed for the Clothier’s shop, requesting plant cloth, logs, and rock. I understand the cloth, but logs and rock? That confuses me. In any case, I think Tulon’ll be okay. No need to panic. Just another drink of rum is all I need to get my mind off of my worries.

1st Moonstone, 223:

Winter has arrived, and nothing of note has happened between now and the last entry. At least nothing bad is going wrong, aside from having the liaison retreat from the fort.

(Turn summary: Wound up unable to request goods due to Bronze Colossus, caught said colossus, began work on more workshops, flipped out a bit with the linked stockpile chaos, and started in on the tavernwork. I'll most likely leave it to the next overseer to make the tavern officially a tavern.)

Since I'm next, maybe I should consider a way to drop the colossus into a controlled magma chamber. melt off all that precious bronze~
