There is a character who was taught that it is OK to murder opponents as long if it's necessary. This character slowly enjoys and plays with the idea of murder but will not murder unless pushed into doing so. Is that to dark?

We generally suggest that people use Trope Finder to ask the "is this a trope?" question. However, I can answer you: no. Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy is an audience reaction that occurs when a work is so dark and hopeless, with no redeemable characters even on the notionally "good" side, that viewers decide they don't care about who wins or loses.

It is not something that can be applied to individual characters.
