I like that discussions exist; I want to use them more. But right now, they're kind of detached from the actual article unless someone actively goes looking there themselves, and the best way is seemingly to make an edit, explain your edit in the reasons box and mention if you happen to have a discussion on the go regarding the matter. That's incredibly unlikely to be seen by many people, and so the discussion goes unseen.
Can there be some kind of notification for when new discussions are started? Sort of like the unread check marks here on the forum. I think that would help a lot. Just a thought.
