Sasuke looks toward Tarou, smiling, "How long have you been guarding the town, 'Master Tarou'?" he glaces toward the food box, "Also, um, would you mind if I sample a bit?"

"Unless I am teaching you something, please...do not call me...Master." he answers calmly, though one with keen eyes might notice just the faintest blush. He nods towards the box, signalling for Sasuke to help himself before continuing. "It's bee about 8 years now. I stumbled upon the village one day and...it grew on me, I suppose. It's not as if I had anywhere else to call home."

Sonome Village

Kotone smiles widely and genuinely as they approach the tavern.

"Oh, you guys work with spirits? Is that why you're coming to Sonome then?" she says, getting wistful as she does a quick little twirl in the rain (making sure to keep the cloak over her as she can with her arms out), "This place calls to us, don'tcha know. Or at least it does to me - if Yama has felt anything he hasn't mentioned it..."

Tavern

When Koneko enters the tavern (following Ren and Mana) she makes a beeline for her companion, taking the stool next to him and spinning exactly once before resting her elbows on the counter.

"I made some friends!"

"Neat," Yamada replies, patting her on the head before turning his gaze to the "friends" in question. They seem normal enough. Then he hears Sasuke's "wet dog" comment. He looks back for a moment, sizing him up, before smirking.

"Something like that, yes. You may call me Yamada."

"And I'm Koneko!"

Chikiyumi Village

Nairube chuckles tiredly as he adjusts himself, sitting against the wall and leaning his head back. Light trickles in from a gap of a nearby curtained window, landing on his hand and warming it.

"You know, you've called me young one since the day I got back and I still don't believe it," he says, reaching forward to pat Kotone gently upon the head, "I'm doing all right for the time being. How about you? Any news?"

Sonome Village: Tavern

Yayoi paused, raindrops clattering on her umbrella. A slight slight chill ran down her spine. The atmosphere in Sonome seemed distinctly off...no, perhaps it was simply the rain that gave her that impression. Looking towards the tavern, Yayoi sighed.

"I think I shall impose," she said, cheerfully.

She followed Rentarou and Aiko into the tavern. From inside her hakama, she pulled out a teru teru bouzu made of a small bundle of white cloth and string, and hung it over by the tavern window.

"Hopefully the rain will ease up now." She turned. "Koshu sake, please!" she told Mira.

She strode over to the table in the corner where Rentarou sat.

"Now, is it amazake for Aiko again, or are we irresponsibly allowing her something stronger?" Yayoi said, barely concealing a grin behind her hand.

"You know, my cousin, though our families may think different of us, I find our fates are rather similar. The road is long and the silence is great. If you would not mind, could you please indulge me your ear?" An incredibly enormous and slightly more credibly ugly white man strode down the road to Sonome, dragging a well-laden cart meant for mules behind him with ease, alongside his dear cousin, looking the part of a pirate and his hired thug to a tee. He wore simple but hardy leathers, and a huge sword bounced on his back. He spoke Dutch. "As you know, speaking and walking works me harder, and I could after all always care to be even more fit. We could also stand to speak some of the language, as we won't be able to do so for many other people either."

He took a swig from his canteen. "Now, as I was saying, have you noticed how close our fates really are? I know our family has supposedly sworn you off, but I don't think that actually forecasts their disposition towards you with any particular accuracy. You see, they allowed me to go with you, cos'. While not exactly locked in a high tower, my parents did always worry for me. I feel that if they truly did not trust you, they would not allow us to be in one another's care!" He clapped his cousin on the back. "Just a thought I had, one that would perhaps raise the spirit on this gloomy day!"

Sonome Village Street

The Dutchman had enough good sense to keep his head down as he strode past the city gate, but as soon as he got on the street proper he began searching around for the few people still on the street. Working the troll magic normally used to talk to animals, then breaking it over his knee to work with humans, he finally spoke his first few words of Japanese in a broad declaration. "Hello! Goods that everyone holds for the night can you tell me where for? We are far away from Amsterdam merchants to travel!"

Sonome Tavern

Ren and Mana enter the tavern side by side. Mana's smiling at seeing Koneko run over to Yamada while Ren is seemingly looking around examining everyone else for a second. Then the two, dressed in their fanciful yet remarkably dry outfits, as a matter of a fact they also seem quite dry despite the rain. They approach the counter, walking closely with quite the refined and practiced grace, even if Mana's was certainly livelier.

Both taking a seat nearby to Koneko and Yamada, though turning themselves away from the counter to look at everyone else. Ren giving a polite nod to Yamada and a small gesture to Koneko for the cloak back. Mana looking at what everyone else has ordered, trying to decide on what she would want to eat. She was starving after the traveling.

Both were trying to hide their Youki presence, as much as they could at-least. Might help at a glance, they just had to hope nobody actually tries focusing on them. They were not that good at hiding it yet.

A strange looking woman with snowy looking hair stared at Dutchman with curiosity, wondering about his incredible size, his rather blatant dis-looks, and most curiously his funny way of speaking, that was neither understandable when he taked his own languages, nor when he tried to speak hers.

Although she was not speaking to him yet, he obviously had her attention.

Hans hadn't really been paying attention to what his cousin had been rambling on about. At this point he was just trying to keep focused on walking and not getting lost, which was a feat in and of itself.

Turning to face Ambroos, Hans muttered "Cousin, ask if they have lodgings, the sooner I can rest, the better. Also, having a defensible position will come in handy should the natives decide to turn on us." Hans then proceeded to punctuate his statement by downing a swig of grog "Oh, and ask if they have any drinks that aren't pisswater"

Sonome Village - Tavern

The woman hastily signed the contract, skimming over the contents. She smiled a bit when the soup came and thanked Mira with a voice so weak it was barely a whisper.

The tavern was getting more crowded by the second. The white-haired woman, though, did not seem to pay it any attention. She sat there sipping gently from her bowl, taking delight of the warmth she needed on a cold day. Well, everyday is a cold day... Sometimes she wished that she had lived a different life.

The young woman was lost in her thoughts when she heard the words wet dog. She stiffened and discretely looked towards Sasuke. How does he know? she thought, I couldn't possibly have given myself away. She shivered as she thought of what the red-headed man could possibly do.

In a few more moments, she felt like the stupidest person in the world. He wasn't referring to me, she sighed with both relief and annoyance. I really should get going before someone truly finds out what I am. With that thought, she began to eat her soup only a little bit faster. You just can't spoil such a blessing, though...

Sonome Village

Sasuke grins, noticing the blush, "Whatever you say, Rentarou-san." he then nods, taking on a more understanding expression, Sonome has always had that effect. I've been all over, on the island and off. And I've seen a lot of fascinating things," he shakes his head with a calm smile, "But this island, and the Shinmei forest and Sonome in particular, they've always been my sanctuaries."

He glances toward the woman, briefly making eye contact, and smiles kindly, Someone sure is nervous...

He beams as Koneko joins them, "Oh, what an adorable little kitten! I could just gobble you up. I won't though, that would be quite rude. A pleasure to meet you both!" he looks around, "And all my new friends!" he then drops his voice to a coy whisper, winking to Koneko and Yamada as he teases, "I certainly hope my coin purse is wide enough to pay for all of their refreshments."

With deft fingers, he jovially snatches up a meat pie from the offered box, he reclines on his stool, humming a mysterious little song while he eats.

Chikiyumi Village

Kotone giggles a bit as he pets their head, looking up into his eyes, "Because you are a young one, silly. Unless my memory is fading, I think I called you that since you were a little boy." then, as a a quiet aside, they add, "Or...was that your father..."

They then smile back up at Nairube, "Well... I saw a boat with strangers on it, two of them were even shorter than me, they both had gold in his hair and emeralds for eyes!" she giggled, "They dressed funny too. There was also a woman, a very tall woman, with black hair that had a white streak running through it."

They pause for a moment, thinking, and probably drawing breath, since they tend to talk rather fast, "Oh, and there was a huge fish about the size of their boat that lept out of the water a bit distant from them, don't know if any of them saw it. Anyway, the tall lady was wearing a blue dress... I think she was talking to birds..."

Would it be possible to have a room for the two of us prepared, oh and we brought a horse, could someone stable it for us please?" He says politely bowing his head slightly to the individual, his Japanese quite fluent and clear even if heavily accented, a lot of practice to ensure its clarity.

Mana quickly turns to look at the counter. "Oh can we can two bowls of miso soup as well please?" asked excitingly.

"Why is it you always think abou- we are in a tavern, relax a little." Mana interrupting for once while Ren is seemingly drawing some coins from his pocket to pay for all of this it. Mana leaning close to nudging him as she was speaking.

"So you've been here before? I see...then, allow me to apologize for my behavior before..." he says sincerely. "I hope I did not offend or anything of the sort..."

Seeing Yayoi sit down with him, he can't help but smile just a tiny bit at her inquiry. "I am only giving her a sip, do not worry." he says reassuringly. My master gave my my first taste of alcohol when I was younger...which he then regretted when I deemed it wise to go gallivanting about the town unclothed that night..."

He watches as the three young—or at least young-looking—newcomers arrive inside and he fidgets just a little. The tavern was becoming quite crowded. And he could feel something attempting to rise to the surface as he sensed certain things about some of the people around him. Doing his best to quickly fight it back, he takes a swig of his sake, which does help to calm his nerves...for now.

I am in control here... he says mentally, quietly reminding himself of that repeated until he feels the feeling subside.

Hearing the approach and declaration of the two strange men saying something in something that sounded half-Japanese and half-Dutch about merchants, Minami glances over to them curiously. "Hmm?" Yamada nods his appreciation to Sasuke before standing and patting Koneko lightly on the head. Then, he nods to Mira politely and takes his leave. The gathering crowd has his nerves standing a little, especially with how mixed the company is. He didn't want to get caught in the middle of an unnecessary fight.

Koneko, meanwhile, realizes that Sasuke is paying and offers up Yamada's left behind bowl.

"I'll take what he had!"

Outside

Yamada stands quietly under the cover of the tavern's overhang. His arms around crossed and the smell of ozone fills his lungs from the light rain. Thunder rumbles somewhere overhead.

Nairube laughs lightly at Kotone's tales of newcomers and great fish, stretching lightly and listening to his back crack and pop. When Kotone finishes, he speaks.

Ambroos grinned broadly. "Cousin Hans, look! One of them, speaking our tongue!" He shook her hand solidly and aggressively. "Hello ma'am, my name is Ambroos! It is good to see that even in Strontstapel we may find the solace and intimacy of a shared tongue—perhaps not a shared tongue in the way a fine prostitute would provide, but still enjoyable nonetheless. In any case, I suspect my cousin here would sincerely appreciate directions to the tavern at your soonest convenience." He hefted the cart. "I will search on my own for a space to store my goods. Even in this strange land I will know a goods warehouse when I see one, particularly in a town as small as this. For now, Hans, please play nice and find a good place to stay."

Ambroos set off down the road in search of such a building and gave a cordial nod to the white-haired woman watching him. Switching back into Japanese, he waved to the woman and said, "Miss hello, I have good friendly! Don't worry, I will devour Christians!" He then laughed, amused at his own joke.

Sasuke smiles as the okonomiyaki and sake is placed down in front of him, and he bows his head politely to Mira, then smirks toward Koneko briefly. While Mira’s back is turned, he pulls out an extra cup he had concealed on his person and portions out a little of the spirits for the..little spirit, he holds up his finger to his lips in a quick ‘shh’ motion, then starts nibbling on his food.

Looking toward Tarou, he shakes his head happily, “Not offended in the slightest, don’t worry. You’ve only been here 8 years, it’s been…well, it’s been several times that since I last set foot through those gates.” He notes the discomfort on his face, and asks, “You feeling alright?”

Your family has a habit of looking young, I suppose… I was really happy the day you came back, Nairube… I would have followed, but.. I’ve always done best near the sea…” they say, slightly wanly, as if remembering something, but perks up rather quickly, rushing around to get clothes for him, “We could probably go catch the fish if we hurry! Ren looks over the piece of paper carefully, checking exactly what it is. Assuming it is just to stay for the night and everything seemed and it was not a outlandish price, Ren will take a quill and sigh it, initially about to do it in their home language by instinct but quickly correcting and signing in the Japanese.

Either way it was rather fanciful handwriting, incredibly so. Practiced from the dozens of hours of stewarding their house, even if it should be Mana's job. Of which....She apparently move over to be right next to Koneko talking about the topic of food.
