What is this black and white movie called about possessive husband??

I recently watched a black and white movie where the husband is revealed to be possessive after first seeming like a great guy. The wife is terrified of him and repeatedly tries to leave him. He does things like mess with the car so she can't drive away from him and follows her when she does manage to escape. He threatens to kill her if she ever leaves him. Ring a bell for anyone in regards to the title of the movie?
