Did you play Bus Simulator 16?
This game is more like Train Simulator, which my cousin plays endlessly. Comparing this game to a game from several generations ago is ludicrous.

So... reading up on this game, it's actually kickass.
Yeah, it's one of those "real life sims" like Farming Simulator, BUT... it's more like Cities in Motion: Ground Level. When you build your rep up as a bus driver, you start unlocking districts, and when you do, you have to plan the routes yourself. You earn advertising on your buses.
Even better, it has up to 16 player online co-op, in which you and your friends all drive bus routes in the city, adding to the company's rep collectively.
It also has full modding support, too.
