So I need to show a short amount of time passing as two characters carry a third character from the woods to the hospital.

Before the time change, Sam and Circe (two ineffectual sympathetic villain protagonists) have knocked out a helicopter and have to deal with a seriously injured pilot who was knocked out of the sky when their own flying machine exploded. Circe is pretty panicked by the guy, while Sam attempts to keep a steady head. All three characters are in a heavily wooded area during this part.

After the time change, Sam and Circe have exited the forest, still holding the pilot. As they approach the hospital, it would seem that things have calmed down a bit, and the two are filling the time by talking to each other trivially. This conversation at first appears to be seinfieldian, but some suggestions made concerning the moon end up fueling the rest of this episodes plot.

I need some way to transition between these two conversations without everything becoming jarring. I was thinking a musical cue might be the best way, but I'm not quite sure.

You could have their conversation continue, fading out into a musical segue, then fade back in again as they approach the hospital.

And footsteps might be a cue, as well. Crunching dry leaves as they go through the forest, and hard steps on concrete at the hospital.
