The F-117 shootdown was due to real life Conservation of Ninjutsu.
A single stealth aircraft on a surprise mission is basically unstoppable.
Apply masses of stealth aircraft on a sustained campaign and the enemy will adjust and start shooting them down.
Same thing applies to other stealthy combatants like submarines and possibly the U-2 shootdown.
