I wanted to make a thread discussing safe spaces since I feel like there's some confusion about what they're supposed to be, and I'm concerned about the conclusions people draw about them from the way the media has been discussion then during the past month. To me, a safe space is somewhere that people from an oppressed minority, specifically GSRM (gender , sexual, and romantic minorities) can congregate or just hang out without fear of persecution of prejudice. But a lot of people seem to see safe spaces as a group that wants to shut out, or be safe, from all opinions besides their own, often to the detriment of free speech. This is the opposite of what a safe space is supposed to be, and I am especially concerned that these groups will drain credibility away from legitimate safe space organizations set up to actually protect people. I don't want this thread to devolve into something akin to "the present generation is degenerate and this is why" so please keep it civil
