I think that if it's a different style than the actual series, then it's not illustrating the series as well as something that is in the same style.

The second poster looks more detailed and busy, which is definitely not the overall atmosphere of the show. The first one is better because the style is looser and more reflective of the actual show. Plus it fits in with the recurring star motif.
