Suggestion: Secret Character

This update to the newer game has larger, more readable font, so it's a bit more aesthetically pleasing.

Flip a coin.

Can you get one that is more obvious just going through the motions? Like Luigi? I don't want to be spoiling people on the image.

There's Dr. Mario◊, Jigglypuff again◊, Game & Watch◊ (where the character practically IS the silhouette, you could maybe make a joke out of that)

Keep the current. We really need to stop making threads for changes that are lateral at best.

This. Seriously. We don't need to replace every image from a Smash Bros. game that isn't the Wii U one.

If its the same stuff higher polygon count and someone is willing to put the effort into it then yes. If its extremely different than its a toss up on its own merits.

This one isnt a lateral change and seem equal so meh. I would prefer something funny though like Luigi being a 'secret character' even in this day and age.

Higher polygon count is a style difference, not a quality difference. Style is subjective and has the priority of a subjective opinion, much like, "I prefer this character."

It's basically a lateral move as far as I'm concerned. There's nothing wrong with the current, so I see no need to go through the trouble of changing it.

Keep the current.

Current works fine. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

And I can't quite put my finger on why, but for some reason with the suggestion it feels more like it could be just a normal prefight splash screen, while current definitely feels a lot of Secret Character-y. Might be because there's less in the image, the Wario one looks more "normal."
