Both are pretty good, though if I had to, I'd give the El Dorado image a slight edge since it's from a work.

I really like the first one but the second one is not bad.
The OP suggestion looks clearer for me, so I'd lean towards that one.

I think a straight example would convey the trope more clearly. That looks more like a Surrender Ceremony gone wrong.
