Apparently somebody finally realized how awesome it would be to make an FPS based in the Ghost in the Shell universe, and this is the result:

Ghost in the Shell: First Assault

...Only, it's chosen an awfully bad time to be released; the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops III has a very similar premise and gameplay design and is only a month away from release. That's gonna steal a lot of potential customers from this game. What's more problematic though is how the game seems to be solely an online-only free-to-play FPS experience. I don't think they're planning on giving the game anything beyond the multiplayer aspect either, meaning the potential for an awesome singleplayer campaign is going to be wasted. Seriously, this is THE franchise which inspired Deus Ex, BLOPS III, and so many other Cyberpunk games on the market right now, and so much of the setting is conductive towards videogames - just how the hell did it avoid having a developer pick up the rights and churn out an excellent AAA title for so long?!?

Currently the game is in the Closed Beta testing phase, which means we might see more of a story and additional features get added in the future. But right now, it's just another team-based free-to-play online FPS.

At least they got the VA of Major Kusanagi from the Stand Alone Complex series to reprise her role. Don't see her having much use beyond the intro video though.

Well, it's open beta. And is there any real choice for a first character other than the Major herself?

Giving it a go in a bit. Seems like they got the voice cast back...as well as TACHIKOMAS!
