I've noticed on quite a few Anime/Manga pages that there are often links to dead mangafox pages or to scanlation sites of questionable legality.

I've thought about just pruning them down, but in cases when they're referencing a specific image, would it be better to find the image and replace it? In that case, would there still be problems if the image was cropped or taken from a scanned work?

Not going to comment on the scanlation site thing, but a cropped image isn't any different from what we do in Image Pickin' all the time. It's only a small part of the work, so it's okay to use that to show an example.

We explicitly ban links to non-licensed material on the wiki. That includes scanlations, You Tube rips, etc. Remove any that you find.

[up] To expand on that: Scanlation links are verboten anywhere on the wiki proper, and are very much frowned upon in the forums outside of using them for image sources in Image Pickin'. The best thing to do is to rewrite the entry to give the context of what's in the link and then purge the link. If the link's dead, just kill it and the example entry as well if it relies too heavily on the link for context.

At one time, I'd floated the idea of some sort of mass search function that would find pages that have links to scanlation sites, but nothing came of it...with the new management and new hardware behind the scenes, it may be time to try to resurrect that idea.

Links to Crunchyroll, Hulu and other legal online distribution is still fine though.
