The main issue I have with the suggestion is that, IIRC, the Spartans in 300 do fight in phalanx formation, as well as breaking it up to fight individually...not sure if that's enough to disqualify it or not.
I don't think it does. It's technically a Zigzagged Trope in 300, playing it straight or averting it in different scenes depending on the Rule of Cool being in effect at the moment. In that particular shot they're clearly not.

You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"I think there are far more ridiculous examples but the OP works.
Clock is set. I can live with the suggestion.
Few responses to this one... went back to the drawing table for an alternate from the same work where the contrast is more pronounced.
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"That definitely works.
That looks good.
The clock is way past due on this one. Either pic is definitely better than nothing, so I've put up the second pic and tagged the page. Locking up; caption discussion can happen in the repair thread.
Opening suggestion: Spartans in 300 breaking formation and historical Spartans massing in a neat phalanx.
