Um, is this "Gamescom" thing sort of like E3?

I guess that includes Capcom? I remember reading from someone here that they're speculating that we'll get a Devil May Cry 5 from Gamescom...

So...is it just Microsoft today? Or is there another one later today?

According to the other wiki, Gamescom is the largest gaming convention in the world and is held in Germany. Effectively Europe's E3.

Don't feel bad if you haven't heard of it, I didn't hear of it myself until Blizzard started releasing their opening cinematic for WoW's last two expansions there.

Speaking of WoW, Blizzard is announcing their new expansion at Gamescom.

Yeah, it's basically Europe E3. There should be a few interesting announcements.

I'm skipping out on the forums for a month but I just wanted to say that SE's info at Gamescom will most likely be the new FFXV trailer(probably with a release date), XII remaster and Deus Ex/Hitman/Just Cause trailers.

When is Sony's conference?

Oh I have to correct myself: Sony won't do a conference either.

No news about a new Command and Conquer game. Pity, I guess EA is content to let the franchise fade away... Can't they at least sell off the rights to somebody else, let another developer take a shot at it?

Good lord no. I'm content to let dead franchises stay dead.

When has EA ever sold the rights to one of their major IPs (or any of them, major or not, at that)?

I didn't understand this whole "they should sell the rights if they're not doing anything with them" thing when I heard it in regards to Wing Commander, and I don't understand it now.

Look at how Marvel Comics has issues with character rights after they sold off the movie rights to some of their properties in The '90s to raise funds when their comics income tanked. Why would EA want to court that hassle to have to re-acquire franchise rights at some later date, when it costs next to nothing for them to just retain the rights in the first place and let them sit in a filing cabinet somewhere until they decide to do something with the franchise? Unlike 1990's Marvel, it's not like EA is particularly hurting for cash.

it's not based off anything that would be smart or pragmatic for EA to do, but rather because people think ea is a bad company and would rather see other people own franchises they care about.

To be honest, I was hoping that the modding community could at least get partial or temporary rights to the franchise, because right now both Twisted Insurrection for Tiberian Sun and Rise of the Reds for C&C Generals are excellent productions. I'd love to see what those guys could do when motivated with an actual budget and creative control of the franchise.
