Rodina is an under-development Early Access beta spaceflight sim, being created by a single developer. It takes place in an extrasolar system comprised of five planets, an asteroid belt, and a sun, all of which are rendered at a realistic scale and procedurally generated. Gameplay is seamless and loading screen-less. At the moment, the game is pretty bare-bones: there's not much to do besides fly around, shoot enemy ships and collect Elder Scrolls-style logs. However, the game is under active development, and the developer polls the community about what features they'd like to see implemented next. The developer's eventual vision for the game is for it to be Daggerfall in space.

The game (and a one hour demo) are available at the developer's website on a pay-what-you-want model (minimum $2), or on Steam Early Access for $15. Windows-only, I'm afraid. It's pretty heavily dependent on Direct X, as I understand it. Note: This is by no means a completed game. I dropped $15 on it because I wanted to support the developer and get a say into how it develops, but it's not done by any means. Check out the demo to see if it appeals to you.

That said, some of the terrain is beautiful, the writing is excellent, and it's just a lot of fun to fly around. I'm very excited to see how it shapes up over the next few years. The next feature the developer is working on is robot babies - and in doing so is laying the groundwork for the NPC infrastructure, allowing the game to develop in a whole new direction.
