It's a bug where after you kill enemies they still have a hitbox, so you lose weapon durability twice as fast, especially if you're fighting a mob of enemies that will chip your weapon when you swing it through their models. It sucks, and they fixed it in First Sin.

not especially. the new enemy placements make more sense and are perhaps a bit more challenging, but its not worth rebuying if you're already satisfied with what you have.

the only other thing sotfs adds is the aldia subplot, boss ending, i think? at least, i dont think the dlc adds it. but its still not an especially compelling reason to rebuy the game.

lastly theres the expanded summoning thing...what was it, possible to have 6 people summoned at once or something? of course, it doesnt use the player pool from the original game, and i never particularly used pvp or more than 1 phantom in ds2 so...eh.

i only got sotfs because i hadnt already bought the dlc, and buying sotfs was cheaper than getting the dlc for the version i already had. i appreciate the changes but i dont think they're dealbreakers or anything.

I can confirm the Aldia stuff was added to regular DS2.

I've actually never played Dark Souls 3, just followed the lore and LP's

but having played Nioh, I don't think I can ever go back to the soulsborne games again, they will just feel too slow by comparison.

Anyone know where I can find embers? I've been beating my head against the Demon Prince for the past three days and really need help.

[up]But where? I've seen people say Lothric Castle but I can't seem to get any drops from the knights.

The Lothric Castle bonfire. Just warp over, kill the sword knight that starts in the room (it's really easy), rest at the bonfire, repeat. Equip the GSR, Symbol of Avarice, and Crystal Sage Rapier (you can switch to it after you kill the knight but before it drops anything if you need to) to increase your chances.

I got a fair number of them while grinding souls to buy stuff.

Finally after some irritating trouble redownloading the game, I got it finally downloading.

Only one question. Where do I start the Ringed City DLC?

Oh really when?

Either Friede's boss room in the Painted World of Ariandell or the Kiln of the First Flame.

its kinda weird the dlc is so...anti-climactic. giving the painter the dark souls doesnt actually do anything. not even an ending or any kind of actual conclusion. its so weird, considering a few people will have already beaten the lord of cinder by the time they enter the ringed city. you're putting off new-game plus/the end to do it, but to no actual end (well, aside from the value of gameplay itself).

also why does patches not acknowledge anything when you return to firelink after finishing the lapp sidequest in ringed city?

I mean, Friede's very technically just one boss, so you can technically do both DLC before Abyss Watchers.

Iudex>Vordt>Crystal Sage>Friede>Dreg Heap.

which is a terrible idea, considering the intended soul level for the area (iirc the devs suggested 100)

but eh. fighting the dancer at the first opportunity was a bad idea too, never stopped anyone.

I mean, yeah, and the Painted World of Ariandell recommends you be in Lothric Castle.

Those two knights in the church got me. I fell for the trap and fell off that cliff and into that library? Maybe?

Also what the hell is that angel thingy that was shooting lasers at me?

The reason as for Patches not acknowledging his actions back at Firekeep is because The Ringed City takes place in the distant future, and you only begin to time travel even further as you progress through the DLC. In fact it's implied that by the time you're fighting Gael, the entire world, Ringed City included, has been reduced to ash, and the two of you are probably the last few "living" beings left.

So from what I gather from this DLC the whole deal about the Undead Curse is...

There never really was a "curse". Being undead is the natural state of both Pigmyes and humans. But after the war with the dragons was over, Gwyn was so terrified about the Dark Soul and the Abyss, he locked the Pigmyes away in the Ringed City and put a seal of fire on both them and their descendants. THAT is the Darksign.

With fire, humans experienced disparity, that is, they lived and died. But as the First Flame began to fade, so did the seal, and thus the dark in them re-emerged, making them Undead. And as they become their true selves, the memories of their life with fire fade away, and the fear of losing their memories turns them mad -Hollow- and seeking souls, for they are shreds of fire and could help them recover their memories.

The Abyss IS dangerous, but those in tune with the Dark Soul, like the Pigmyes, can safely live in and control it. Humans under the rule of the gods had no knowledge of this, could not handle it properly even if taught, and so the Dark became the problem it is now.

Found the Silver Serpent Ring +3.

Anything in particular I should be looking for? I could use some new armor and weapons.

Oh really when?
SgtRicko Since: Jul, 2009

Depends on what kind of weapons you like, and what's your playstyle. For example, if you collect 35 vertebra shackles under the Mound Makers covenant you'll get the "warmth" pyromancy, which acts as a gradual healing spell. VERY handy, especially since pyromancies don't require staffs or charms!

Another weapon of note are the Winged Knight dual axes. They're the slowest of the dual-wielded weapons (well, until the dual greatswords were introduced...), but they do lots of damage if they connect, have a wide sweeping range, and their weapon art is a spinning attack similar to the Dancer's.

And failing that, there's those claws found in the Ariandel DLC from those creepy bird guys.

EDIT: Can't think of any optimal armor suggestions. It basically comes down to prioritizing physical damage protection since that's the most frequent type of attack to worry about, and not concerning yourself with any type of heavy armor since there's little benefit to the amount of points required to make the most out of the heavier sets. Well, except maybe Ornstein's armor, since it has some great DEF against lightning and physical attacks.

The Double Great Door Shields. 'Nuff said. wink

Probably the Lightning Arrows. That's about as handy and utilitarian as you can get.
