I had a pet rat, after which I found out I was allergic to rats. But our time together was fun. She's always try to bit me if I reached for her in her cage, but once she was out, she was perfectly friendly and would run up my arm or across my shoulders like I was her personal playground.

I heard a lot of good things about rats.
The fact that you shouldn't let them breed and the rat tumor, though...
