so, the second season really didn't get off to the best start and, according to source readers on reddit, this arc is seen as the worst arc in the L Ns too and is where a lot of people dropped the series. the anime is also rushing through the arc, making it even worse

If it's the worst arc, doesn't it make sense to get it over with

yeah, it makes sense, but it's not gonna make the arc any better or less painful to go through. what makes it worse is that source readers have said that, while the arcs after it are better, they aren't really good enough for the series to be worth continuing. which is why many people dropped it at the Spirit Turtle arc or shortly after

here's Echidnut's take on why the second season is failing so badly:

[up] No need for an analysis video. The reason is simple. It's boring as fuck with a lot of nothing interesting happen there and the stakes are pretty low, especially once Naofumi start to play slave civ game. Those who read the LN version said in the LN, the entire thing with the slave civ game is rewritten, but I'm not reading it and considering there isn't much talk about it as far as I know. I guess it still sucks and boring.

I'm not as witty as I think I am. It's a scientifically-proven fact.

I'm morbidly curious about how the "Slave Civ" thing got rewritten since that was pretty much one of the main things in the series as a whole.

Tried watching the video and noped out at the Biden clip as well as him talking up Jobless.

[up] Based on what those LN readers said back then, the battle with the kaiju turtle got waifu more stake and dramatized, and from that point the LN got a bunch of new waifu characters as the heroes from Fan Lady's world visited Naofumi and later Naofumi and "co" got transported to the Fan Lady's world and go on an adventure there. I guess it does sound more interesting than Naofumi just playing slave civ game in theory, but I'm not reading it so who knows.

None of that disputes the Slave Civ stuff happening eventually at some point or the Jabba thing or some such equivalent.

[up] The slave civ game is still happening since the entire storyline with the tiger kemono siblings is still there, but Naofumi kinda skim and speedrun the entire slave civ game there to focus on the new stuff based on what the LN readers said to me, so at least it's supposedly much shorter.

Personally, I am quite enjoying the 2nd season. True, it isn't as good as the first but it is still entertaining. Plus I like Ost is cool.

is anyone here even watching the second season? i just checked out the episode threads on r/anime because i heard the first episode crashed and burned, i haven't even watched season 1, it had everything people criticized season 1 for. so i decided to keep up with the episode threads to see how bad the trainwreck gets.

and from what source readers have told, while the arcs after the Spirit Turtle arc are better than it, it never stops being anything more than a generic isekai. makes you wonder why people simped so hard for this series in the first place...

If I recall, Shield Hero was one of the earliest WN's translated into English and translated well so it garnered a following so it's likely residual nostalgia of that early reading period. That and edge, lots of edge.

While I did enjoy the second season, even I would say that the first episode of the third season does seem to be something of an improvement. Liked the little bit of action at the end (including the bad acting[lol]) and am interested in seeing how the arc goes. Not as much of a fan of this opening as the previous ones though.
