Ah, I misread that as "they have to come up with more original ideas" [lol] .

And yup, the game essentially takes place in a multiverse that was created after planet Tellus went kaboom in the 15th or 16th century, and real cultures and historical events up to that point in time will be taken into account for the game's lore and the prequel novel. The 1990 predecessor, Lords of Chaos, already had the Spanish grand inquisitor Tomas de Torquemada as a boss-level wizard.

Huh. Would have been nice to know that before I complain about boring real life gods :p Because that does solve pretty much all of my issues

(Though granted, goddess archetype I described is overused to the point I've gotten bored of it :P But now its case of personal preferences rather than "Man this setting would have been perfect for weirder ideas")

Eh, if all gods are going to be real life ones, I hope someone picks up one of my fave ones :p

(And admitedly, I'd still like more weirder gods :p I'm kinda bored of gods looking like humans in pretty much every real life and fictional mythology)

Mind you, you can go as weird as you want, the game's universe is set in a space-time loop where all sorts of bizarre shite comes together, which also explains why it mixes medieval imagery with sleek, futuristic high-tech stuffs. But as I said, human mythology is part of it.

I know, that why I was disappointed by human gods before I knew it was actually lore appropriate tongue I previously thought there was no real life connection at all so I was wondering why would realm made of chaotic stuff have irl/human like gods

(goddess I'm talking about wouldn't be that bad anyway if not for that almost every single video game pantheon has similar one -_-; Like I said, I've just got tired of that keeping happening)

Anyway, besides my tastes that prefer the bizarre, would you like to have matches sometimes?

Absolutely, albeit I'm giving the game a hiatus for a bit. My steam name is the same as my TV Tropes handle.

Hey, if you don't want high level play, I can equip level 1 stuff. Or just not use broken talismans(though I think all broken ones got nerfed already)

Yup, it's been part of the last update. I'm still in no mood to pick the game up again, but when the next update brings the first attempt at Realms mode, I'll get back in.

The developer testing branch for update 0.28 is out now. A Basic version of Realms mode has been implemented, with a few prefab realms for players to try. Procedural generation is coming in the next update, together with a first pass at equipment and realm creation tools.

So far it's quite fun, if unstable and slow as hell; these issues should be resolved with the public release next week.

Update 0.28 has been live on Steam for a few days now. It's stable and a lot faster than the clunky developer build. For the upcoming weeks, Julian Gollop promised this:

There is a lot more planned for the Realm mode over the next few weeks – including control of key installations and travel points, marauders sent by the wizard king to recapture territory and destroy villages, diplomacy and feuds, control of villages to generate fighting forces. Essentially it will have a lot more strategic development and movement of forces, rather than just an exploration quest as it is now. Closer to XCOM, but quite different in many ways.

It is official: Chaos Reborn will leave early access on the 26th of October. Here's Word of God:

We planning to release Chaos Reborn from early access on October 26th. We need to do this for the financial sustainability of the game. It will not mean an end to game development. We will have a post release plan with regular updates. The version 1.0 release will include the wizard lord and wizard king social rank features, but it will not include the demigod and god roles. We will add these following release. I apologise to those of you who may be a bit disappointed with this, but this is the best plan we can come up with. Everything else promised by in the kickstarter campaign will be delivered.

For the official release we will be focussing on the experience of new players and polishing the interface, presentation and fixing many minor issues and bugs. Here are the main things to be added:

  • Wizard Lord and Wizard King roles - currently working the Steam beta test release.
  • An interactive tutorial with 7 tutorial battles and 14 challenges.
  • Offline realm quests with 7 realms and tutorial included. These realms will use pre-configured wizards and be entirely self contained (no taking out of equipment or gold). Players can gain medals based on their score in these realms, and opt to replay them any time.
  • Realm inventory - You can only take your current configuration into a multiplayer realm. If you win the realm you can take out any equipment you managed to buy there.
  • Realm gold - you will be given a set amount of gold entering a multiplayer realm. If you win the realm you can take out any excess gold to spend in the shop.
  • Steam achievements
  • Improved AI
  • An in-game messaging system informing players about realms created, league winners, and so on (eventually players will be able to send each other messages).
  • A narrated game intro movie
  • Extra music tracks and sound effects

If you have any other suggestions about what we should prioritise, please add your comments below. We will our best to make sure we have a polished and playable release. If it goes well, then you can expect our full commitment to the game for many months afterwards. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Tomorrow be launch, and here be the gloriously silly, 1980s-board-game-commercial-esque trailer cool .
