Partially because the idea that a rap "just doesn't fit One Piece" has kind of been shown otherwise with some of the show's Japanese openings and endings. It has had some with rap in them. Even a little dubstep in at least one of them.

And also One Piece just has a lot of silliness in it. One silly rap song isn't gonna do it any harm.

That said, there is the problem that the show's actual opening, "We Are" went unused, although they almost DID do a version, so that sucks.

Honest confession, if the 4kids rap was the opening but everything else was kept as faithful as possible to the Japanese version, I wouldnt mind it, I would love the dub even. And yes, people can die on Saturday Mornings. I would have handled Bellemere's death in a more suble "She didnt make it" way like Liberty's Kids did all the time.

The 4kids rap is So Bad, It's Good, its hilarious.

I take offense that any music in the Japanese version resembles it, or that the Japanese version using rap makes it okay.

[up] a rap song in a dub could work, if it was used correctly.

The only time a 4kids theme song didn't really stick in the public consciousness was TMNT, and that's only because the original opening is so popular.

[up] the TMNT 2003 song didn’t have to create a updated version of the 87 theme song.

By the way, 4kids Flashback had an episode where they interviewed Norman Grossfeld, the president of 4kids productions from 1994 to 2010.

Out of all of the songs that 4kids made, which ones actually still hold up?

Pokemon's first theme, easily.

Since Pokemon was already said, I'm going to say Yu-Gi-Oh!.

I like Yu gi Oh"s song more. But Pokémons is far, far more iconic.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."

I disagree that the 2003 TMNT opening was not iconic. It doesnt have several uploads with MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS of views on Youtube for nothing. Even Tai Chi Chasers, 4kids last dub, had a very good opening.

[up] Proof that 4kids was a licensing firms company, not a dubbing company. Their whole job was to sell the shows to TV and get product deals done. to do that, in the 80s and 90s.

[up][up][up]The 2003 theme was Overshadowed by Awesome by 87's. Think of Elfman's Batman. No matter how many good Batman themes they compose we always hear that cue when we hear the word Batman, unless we are thinking of a funny Batman, and then it's the 66 theme.

Same with the turtles, but the 87 theme fits a serious and a funny mood. It rose so high that any new theme is having an uphill battle topping it.

I actually told my step-aunt (who's Japanese) about the whole "jelly donuts" meme from Pokémon. Naturally she didn't understand what I meant.

Dogasu moans and whines about how Pokemon was whitewashed after it became popular, But Pretty Cure went through that despite all of its dubs flopping. Fresh Precure in particular is blatant as to how westernized the setting looked.
