Dragon Nest is an anime-esque free-to-play action RPG. With a recent update that added a new character class, I figured it might be a good time to get the word out here and see if anyone would be interested in giving it a try.

I believe that the best thing this game has to offer is the combat. In a manner similar to Dynasty Warriors, it is fast-paced, action-packed, and epic to behold. Attacks tend to be big in scope and satisfying in execution. Boss fights, especially at the higher levels, require teamwork, coordination, and skill to overcome even when you have good gear, as facetanking is not an enticing option, thus forcing you to learn how to evade and counter each attack. There are also several character classes, each with branching specializations resulting in 4 final classes to pick from, with each specialization feeling unique in its playstyle, so there's a lot to try out.

Of course, the game is not without its share of complaints. One is gender lock for the character classes. I can see this makes the game's story easier to write for (and the writing is surprisingly funny and witty, even for random side quests), but it still sucks for some people who'd rather play a male Lancer or female Assassin. The other oft-cited turn-off is the fact that the game's hosted by Nexon. I, like many players, hold little love for Nexon, but begrudgingly to their credit, they have made improvements as of late, as they've been more active in speaking with the community and responding to requests. And from my personal experience, I would not call this game pay-to-win, as player skill far, far outweighs the 3-4% boost in stats you get from buying cosmetic items. I earned pretty much everything I have the old-fashioned way, by playing the game, and I don't feel disadvantaged for it.

If anyone is curious and wants to try the game out, I have a guild in the game that's dedicated to guiding newer players and helping them discover what the game has to offer. We can give you advice, teach you difficult content, and provide you with good gear at the earlier levels so you can focus on simply enjoying the game. Let me know here or in-game (same player name as my troper name) if you'd like to get plugged in. Or you can strike it out on your own, that's cool too.
