It's okay I guess. The main problem of course is having a half hour timeslot means guests are barely getting a word in. If they threw an unedited version up the web I think I'd like it a lot better.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?I'm really liking it. I feel keep it 100 is his strongest segment
Presenting! It really benefits from focusing on one topic per episode.
Definitely it gives it its own identity.
Presenting!I love this show. Keep It 100 is my favorite segment, mostly due to the awkwardness.
Surprise, the anti-vaccine lady is the one that can't put forward a coherent argument to save her life.
I like the show so far. It's still trying to find its legs, but Stephen Colbert pointed out in the last few weeks of his show that when he started back in '05 that he wasn't expected to last two weeks. Once the show really starts to settle into its groove I can see it really doing well.
I've always liked Larry Wilmore from The Daily Show (first episode I ever saw was one he was on), and he's consistently been one of my favourite contributors there. When Colbert announced he was ending his show, the only person I thought could remotely handle that time slot was Larry. So I'm glad the show seems to be going well.
My only concern is that, because of the structure, it doesn't leave him a lot of time to just be funny. The first segment is the traditional anchor bit, and Keep It 100 is funny because like he says, it's basically just truth or dare with all truths, but the middle segment seems to drag a lot.
He's had some really intriguing topics lately, but they always seem to fall flat. The Mars One episode especially.
I thought the episode with Bill de Blasio was really good.
Presenting!Oh yeah, that was pretty good. Kinda skipped through it, though, on account of not being from the US
Filler inside filler. Impressive.
(V)(;,,;)(V)The show is just ok for me. Not bad, but not great. I think Larry does make a great host and is pretty funny.
"African-Americans are in the lead for most obese Americans. We're number one! Oh, wait that's not appropriate...."
"It is now legal for congressman to use marijuana. That's just what we need; something to make Congress do less work."

If I had a nickel for every film where Emma Stone falls off a balcony... I'd only have two nickels, but weird that there's two of them.Wow, that piece on the Ferguson police....I can't believe that **** either.
There were other, more violent examples, but one that really stuck out to me was that the police issued a ton of fines to a guy, charged him with lying to the police, and got him fired from his job, for saying his name was "Mike". His ID read "Michael".
He was just sitting in his car after a ball game and they came over and did that. That's....that is literally just arresting and fining a person for existing and being black. And this stuff isn't exceptions...with the volume of material in the report it comes across as standard operating procedure.
That's just...evil. To deliberately go around ruining people's lives because they're black, as a moneymaking measure for the government. I can't process it. And all the people on the panel who had experience with the criminal 'justice' system said Ferguson is more like the rule than the exception.
Wow. If I was black, I'd probably think abolishing police forces entirely would make people safer.

Re: "Wow. If I was black, I'd probably think abolishing police forces entirely would make people safer."
Or, just stop hiring white people as cops. I'm beginning to think that would be a huge improvement.
If I had a nickel for every film where Emma Stone falls off a balcony... I'd only have two nickels, but weird that there's two of them. It's an intuitive idea, but it sounds like the situation is more complicated. This is a strong article on that subject: http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/2001/0106.coates.html
Anyone else feel the brain bit went on a bit long?
(V)(;,,;)(V)Not at all.
I feel like all Wilmore's bits go on too long.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics. As a comic book geek, and one who loves seeing greater diversity in superhero comics, I enjoyed the panel on tonight's episode. I'm a big fan of Ms. Marvel, so having Sana Amanat there was cool. And Phil Jimenez does some fantastic art, so it was cool to see him, too.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.I wish they hadn't brought on an anti-vacciner, twice. Made the show look really bush-league compared to the Daily Show and the Colbert Report, which knew better than to give them an audience.
Was cool to see Lewis Black on a few days ago. Here's hoping other Daily Show alumni appear.
If I had a nickel for every film where Emma Stone falls off a balcony... I'd only have two nickels, but weird that there's two of them."Gay Pizza Eddition"? Did not really need that segment for five minutes.
(V)(;,,;)(V)Apparently, no one at The Nightly Show actually watches Game of Thrones. Or they're the kind of people who don't pay attention unless someone is naked or bleeding. Because there's no other excuse, five seasons in, to still be referring to Daenerys as "Khaleesi" as if it were her name.
Given that the rest of the bit runs on the actual plot of the series, it's baffling that something so basic as a character's name was missed twice in the span of about one minute.

That was . . . pretty rough. It's clear that Wilmore struggles with the whole transgender thing, and doesn't really get it. Which would be fine, if it didn't result in him being pretty frigging offensive. Seriously, just shouting out "tranny"? And then he said it again, while talking about it being offensive. Even worse, he also said "fag," and "the N-word." He didn't say the actual word, he said "the N-word." So he said two offensive words that he's not actually allowed to say, but refused to say the one word he is allowed to say.
My brother pointed out Colbert's interview with a transgender person was less offensive, and the whole point of Colbert's interview was to be offensive.
Yeah, this was not a good showing from Wilmore. Not that he's normally particularly good - he's a really bad host - but this was just terrible.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.Yeah, I didn't really like that segment. I did, however, enjoy his brief comments on Baltimore. Based on that, I think I'll like today's coverage of it.
Yeah I'm not sure if he was playing up the confused old man thing or if he really is that clueless. Seriously, I'm not exactly the model of proper language but just shouting out something that you specifically said was "like the n-word for trans people" is pretty fucking dumb. I wonder if this is just going to be a generational thing. My mom is pretty progressive in most things but she just doesn't "get" it.
Geena's got a pretty great ted talk if anyone here wants to learn a bit more.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?
I didn't see any threads on this, so... uh. What's everyone's thoughts on it so for? I'm enjoying it, though I feel the panel format could be hammered out a bit better...
