Here's the video of the amazing run I mentioned the other day.

HMX brings back the battle of the bands as a part of an update called "Rivals Update". There's also something called the rockumentary, but the video does not really tell what the expansion actually does. However, it comes with some pretty sweet pre-order bonus songs.

  • Bring Me The Horizon: “Happy Song”
  • Capital Cities: “Safe and Sound”
  • Eagle-Eye Cherry: “Save Tonight”
  • Pharrell Williams: “Happy“
  • The Neighbourhood: “Sweater Weather”
  • Of Monsters And Men: “Little Talks”
  • Semisonic: “Closing Time”
  • Sia: “Chandelier”
  • Skillet: “Feel Invincible”
  • Weezer: “King of the World”

Plus two Amazon Exclusive songs:

  • Maroon 5: “One More Night”
  • Matchbox Twenty: “3 AM”

As mentioned earlier, the details of this update seem to be a bit hazy, but roughly half of the new songs featured are insta-donwloads for me.

Shame the show wasn't archived ;_;

Rockudrama and Rivals Mode sound interesting. I was just expecting something like Rock Band 3's challenges, so another campaign to play through is a step up. New rock shop items and venues are very welcomed, though I hope other appearance options are added too. Pre-order songs are always welcome, but I hope there's songs that just come with the expansion itself (if they haven't brought it up already).

I'm betting my bottom dollar this turns out to be completely stupid and misguided. Also half of those pre-order songs are gross.

The DLC of August kicks off with "Mr. Jones" by Counting Crows and "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke, everyone's favourite rape-condoning, sued-for-plagiarism hit of 2013.

The artists announced for the rest of the month are the following:

  • The Barbazons: The promotional song they released ages ago. Let's hope it's still free.
  • Belinda Carlisle: "Heaven is A Place on Earth", most likely. Fingers crossed.
  • Heart: My money is on either "Crazy On You" or "Magic Man", probably the former, as it already appeared in GH 2.
  • Jason Mraz: Does he even have any other songs than "I'm Yours"? Pass.
  • Nicki Minaj: Don't know, don't care.
  • Tonic: Probably "If You Could Only See", their biggest hit.
  • Vertical Horizon: same as above, just with "Everything You Want".
  • Winger: Probably "Seventeen", another HMX-era GH track, although a less requested one.

Overall not a strong month in my opinion. Probably going to pick up Heart, Winger and Carlisle tracks if my predictions are correct. Don't know about Tonic or Vertical Horizon, going to check them out as they're released.

Still less ghastly than Beer for my Horses.

Also I'm Yours is gross and I would give my left kidney to never have to hear it again.

I've always liked "Beer For My Horses". It goes so far into the grim southern vigilante territory that I just cannot take it seriously.

Also, for one reason or another, "Blurred Lines" has very quickly become the second-lowest rated song of DLC Quickplay. It is second only to Pearl Jam's "Master/Slave", which isn't even an actual song. So I guess you could say "Blurred Lines" is the lowest rated song of DLC Quickplay.

It's more of an abstract soundscape that is used as a background noise at the start of the Ten, before "Once" kicks in, and after the final song as a hidden track. Hell, it wasn't even included on original release of Ten as it is in the game. The game version is a Japan Bonus track.

And to clarify: yes, technically it is a song, as much as any other track that you can buy as DLC for Rock Band. I just wouldn't count it as an actual song, as it has none of the qualifications I would usually associate with songs as finished pieces of pop music. I could call it a 'track', perhaps.

Kinda, yeah.

I mean, I understand the importance and appeal of such musical pieces outside of the game, but I honestly cannot see anyone being interested in playing a track like that in Rock Band, especially as DLC you have to pay for.

[up]It was only put in the game because they put the entirety of Ten in there.

That's the part that weirds me out. They cut "S.O.S." off of Dr. Feelgood because it was too short and nigh unplayable. "Master/Slave" isn't even part of the original track list, and still makes the cut.

Eh, that's not important. My point is, there is a lot of reasons to not to count "Master/Slave" as a real song, effectively making "Blurred Lines" the worst-rated DLC track in the history of the game.

S.O.S? Don't you mean T.n.T. (Terror 'n Tinseltown)?

Yes. T.N.T. is what I meant. I got my mnemonic devices mixed, I was thinking of ABBA instead of AC/DC.

New Rock Band DLC! Heart's What About Love? and Winger's Seventeen.

Holy shit those solos in Seventeen are brutal. Seriously, there's some Dragonforce-level craziness in there. 2:19 for the first solo, 3:52 for the second:

Doesn't look THAT bad, almost like an easier version of the abomination that was Once Bitten Twice Shy's last solo. Still the hardest RB 4 DLC since Nevermore, but in an actually good and fun way, just like Nevermore.

What About Love, however, is dreadfully disappointing. With no need for proper stems like before they could've and should've vouched for Crazy on You or Magic Man.

Interestingly "Seventeen" has been labeled Glam as its genre instead of Metal that most of the similar 80's acts have been put in.

Nintendork64 Since: Jul, 2011

I think glam's a more accurate label. Definitely sounds like glam rock/glam metal, and just calling it metal gives me the impression that it's a really heavy song, which this one isn't.

This week we see our first full DLC pack in months, and it's a pack of metal. Should make certain part of the audience happy.

The mystery artists in the line-up are:

  • Ozzy Osbourne: "Road to Nowhere"
  • Megadeth: "Dystopia"
  • Slipknot: "The Devil in I"

Can't say that I wouldn't be disappointed about this. They're all big artists for sure, but they go to the Disturbed category of "haven't we exhausted their catalog already?". Then again, return to the pack format gives hope for the future.

And November kicks off with another pack, this time a three pack from a highly requested, if controversial, Hootie and the Blowfish!

  • "Hold My Hand"
  • "Let Her Cry"
  • "Only Wanna Be With You"

In addition, songs from the following artists are going to be released as DLC during November:

  • Avril Lavigne: Fingers crossed for "Sk8ter Boi", I've wanted that track to a game like this for years (no, Rock Revolution doesn't count).
  • Bon Jovi: I'm hoping for "Keep the Faith", as it has nice drums and bass lines, and I'm honestly baffled it was not included in the mega pack we got in 2010.
  • Bruno Mars: I'm afraid of "Lazy Song", as it's probably his biggest song that has band instrumentation and hasn't been included in the game yet.
  • Coldplay: No idea. "Speed of Sound" is a possible option, though I'm not sure how much fun that (or any other Coldplay song, for that matter) is without the Keyboard.
  • The Cure: A lot of good options, though I'm afraid they'll go with "Lovesong", a song like the Coldplay entry would greatly benefit from the Keyboard.
  • Cyndi Lauper: "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", without contest. Will be a fun one at parties.
  • Fine Young Cannibals

Also worth noting is that there's 7 artists on that list in addition to Hootie, which means that we'll be having at least one other week this month with more than two songs. Good.
