I was writing a character that was a former hero/savior that turned evil, was disfigured, and became a Dark Messiah. Star Wars comparisons are pretty much inevitable. I did choose to keep his identity hidden, but that\'s because I wanted to tell a dual storyline in two different time periods, one follows the character and the other follows his replacement, about 16 years after his fall. He does wear a mask, and wears a military uniform along with a great coat. On top of this he wears a mask, and is introduced as a freakishly powerful warrior. Of course, as i said, i can\'t reveal his identity as the parallel storyline begins when he\'s about 8, and I don\'t want to spoil that the hero the audience would be seeing grow is the future villain.

There are a lot of stories like that. Are they carrying glowing blade weapons? Using a telekinesis known by a Formal name? Join an organization which uses a Formal name?

There are plenty of parallels but Star Wars doesn't own the idea, nor does it have the best spin on it either. You can do plenty to seperate from it. The similarities might even be inviting to Star Wars fans.

The only one of these is that he did join a former organization he assisted in destroying and did have an important title (the Esin, the reincarnated spirit of a great warrior).

I don't think one character makes it too similar to Star Wars. If there were multiple characters or plot points like in Eragon that would be different.
