General Nintendo thread

Ok, Nintendo hasn't announced anything, but they did retweet their talkatoo tweet about secrets, which shows that:

A.) That tweet definitely was not just a random post for the fun of it.

B.) They're actively messing with people now.

Not surprised, honestly.

You'd think people would have learned from the Pokemon Stars fiasco not to give too much credence to a large group of insiders claiming something is true. I mean, even if they're not lying (and I don't think they are lying, nor do I think they were lying about Stars), internal unannounced plans change, and the details of said plans can be misinterpreted by those who find out about them (as was apparently the case with Stars).

The insiders at resetera (people like Emily Rogers) said that a direct was indeed planned for the 11th at some point, but that plans may have changed over the holidays. So yeah you're not wrong in exercising caution there.

I think there will be something this month anyway. It's been oddly quiet on Nintendo's end and this teasing feels a bit more pointed than Nintendo usually is.

Even without insider leaks, expecting a Direct within the next two weeks isn't unreasonable considering that we don't know much about upcoming releases this year. Nintendo also needs to keep the hype train rolling if they want to hit that units sold benchmark they talked about a week or two ago.

Yeah, regardless of how true this rumor ends up being, there's a good chance of a Direct happening this month.

I'm certain Nintendo secretly delays Directs all the time just to rile up internet posters who have no patience.

Open this Direct with Fire Emblem like they did with Fates three years ago please.

They might hold off on Fire Emblem until next month because of Heroes' anniversary. Nice way to pad out a dedicated Fire Emblem Direct, especially if they have other news.

Actually, a Fire Emblem Direct that talks about Heroes' anniversary most likely would be this month.

I wouldn't expect that. They're going to want to advertise FE 16 to people outside of hardcore FE fans, whereas Heroes and Echoes were intended to be more niche things aimed squarely at the existing fandom (they didn't expect Heroes to become such a breakout hit).

I think a Feh Channel broadcast is more likely than a full FE direct, because combining the two would limit the audience to only Heroes players and irritate and bore anyone else who tuned in. Noboby else will care to hear about new Heroes features at length.

Is it safe to say Heroes is the biggest success out of Nintendo's mobile games relative to expectations?

Do you count Pokemon GO? Because that... was something else entirely.

Besides that, Heroes is easily Nintendo's top mobile game. Continually makes good money nearly a year after release, and the playerbase is more or less happy (though still annoyed with plenty of course). Mario Run was a disappointment. Can't say much about Pocket Camp, but while it received a lot of interest it doesn't seem to be making a ton of money at the moment. Could change later on though.

From what I recall, Pocket Camp had lower-than-expected revenue, but brought about a spike in people buying old AC games. So a bit of a mixed bag. It's also meant to tie in to the AC Switch game, so the true test will come when that finally gets released.

And in a similar vein, Pokemon Go attracted sales to other Pokemon games. It's why Sun and Moon were so quick selling.

I expect an Animal Crossing announcement soon.

Also, don't expect any Pokemon info if this is a general Direct. Everytime a new Pokemon game was fully announced, it was announced standalone (X and Y, Sun and Moon, and Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon in their own Directs, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire as a quick trailer).

Double post: Just heard Gamestop sent then deleted a tweet saying Direct in 45 minutes and they added 6 unmarked SK Us to their system.

We're being teased so hard.

And now a spot has opened up on the Japanese Direct page.

I haven't seen anything on the Nintendo of America Youtube page yet. Still hoping we'll see a Direct soon.

Not having an announcement yet for a direct that would be tomorrow probably means it's not actually tomorrow(the 11th) and probably either next week or Friday.

Directs are usually Tuesdays or Thursdays.
