Hi, I'm new here, and I was wondering...What trope would this be called (if it is a trope)?

Ever notice how in TV shows and movies, there is one character who really stinks at something, (lets say ballet), and they are hopeless. Then they practice for only 20 minutes (usually in a montage scene) or someone gives them a pep talk, and suddenly they can perform the skill like a pro.

I've seen this in Arthur in the episode "DW On Ice". DW and James can't skate at all throughout the episode, but by the end of the episode, they can skate without falling (even though they always fell every other time in the episode) NOTE: It's at the very very end, before the fade out. Look closely and you will see them (it's in a bird's eye view)

A film example is Air Bud: Seventh Inning Fetch. Andrea Framm is really bad at baseball, but after only an estimated 10-30 minutes of practicing with the dog, Buddy, she can play almost like a professional baseball player.

Anyone know why Hollywood, or other film and tv producers, do this? I have mixed feeling about this. It's OK in a movie because obviously you need to move along the plot, and nobody wants to sit through a movie where all the "underdog" does is practice (and if they were shown to be hopeless, well, get ready for a ten hour film!). But as for TV shows, especially ones aimed at children, I think that if the character stinks, let them stink! It's more realistic and teaches kids that you can't be good at everything.

Whew! Sorry that was so long. Like I said, I am new here. Please be kind. Thank you.

The trope you're looking for is Instant Expert, or is at least related to it. For the record, questions like this should be asked in Lost And Found, as it says in the pinned posts in this forum.
