Copyright question

Is it ok to name a movie the same title as an existing movie if the title isn't a copyrighted word/phrase (such as Godzilla)? The example I had was an idea for a movie called "The List" though there are apparently already a couple movies called that

If there're already more than one movie with the same semi-generic name, it's probably fine. That being said, you might still want to try something more distinctive, just for the sake of standing out.
