Oh seems season 5 wont have a new hero or a new map either, to be honest... with how the ballance has been I can kind of understand that but..

A) It looks kind of bad that we are only at season 5 and they have already run out
B) ... Maybe they should have taken the other seasons a little slower then, because how are we already at season 5.

Season 3 didn't have a hero either. It's the same release cadence as OW 1. Every 2 seasons.

No new map and no new hero. What’s the point of having a new season when they’re not adding any real content?

Why waste time when you can see the last sunset last?

Btw, they are gonna charge $15 every three mission.

Fuck you blizzard. Really fuck you. This is stupid and i hope this leads to gaming regulations cause your greed exceeds every expectation.

[up]....Damn, when I think they can't go lower they do.

Absolute insanity, I think the only reason they are doing this at this point is they know they torpedoed Overwatch's staying power as a franchise so they are just trying to make quick bucks off the whales before it dies a slow death. There is no real good explanation for charging that much for the hero missions considering in the previous game they were free. They killed PvE and now they are charging for the replacement that was already in the previous game for free.

Either they know the game is going to die and are trying to weasel out any money before it or does or the higher ups are really fucking stupid. Probably both.

Wait I thought they are going to add a new map and hero in August.

I’m not doing Comp. Starting comp is the game placing me in matches against Gold players where I proceed to cost my team games as a result and then get insulted by people on both teams. Oh and I gotta grind all 3 roles separately. Nope.

So apparently they are doing a miniseries taking place during the omnic crisis. It seems it focuses on Aurora and the OG strike team. Part 1 on July 6th

Also another teaser for the next hero. Looks like we have another freak accident on our hands.

Bet you weren't ever expecting to see these words: Overwatch 2 is headed to Steam on August 10th as the first in a line of select Blizzard games to land on the platform.

Activision Lays off its E-Sports staff. OWL Owners are to vote if the League will continue on its current format.

Early today, Blizzard released its second quarter earnings report, within which lies the potential fate of the Overwatch League. From the report:

During the second quarter, we amended certain terms of our collaborative arrangements with team entities participating in the Overwatch League. According to the amended terms, following the conclusion of the current Overwatch League season, the teams will vote on an updated operating agreement. If the teams do not vote to continue under an updated operating agreement, a termination fee of $6 million will be payable to each participating team entity (total fee of approximately $114 million).

I feel bad for everyone at the OWL but honestly, i'm glad Blizzard esports might potentially die. They never got the chance to grow organically and were forced as hell.

Plus, super boring to watch.

[up] I'll admit I'm not familiar with most of it, but about Blizzard Esports, does its artificial nature and death even extend to StarCraft and Warcraft (and its spinoff Hearthstone)?

Just an eagle. (Feel free to PM me if you want to talk to me).

[up][up]Starcraft is a yes. Not sure about Hearthstone but Hearthstone is the e-sport where the Blizzchung incident occurred.

I am not sure about Wo W. I think it may of occurred more naturally there (competitions for world first in raiding was going on for years) but not sure.

It's happening with a lot of other E-Sports companies too. Apparently the only profitable companies are those with the top ranking players and teams. Everybody is just barely scraping along, or even operating with a constant net negative, with a good chunk of the players not even being paid for their contracts anymore or just being outright released.

If it's never really been profitable why did so many games drop everything to get a piece of that pie? Especially when it was detrimental to the game itself? (Yes in still angry about Hanzo's ability change)

I pay attention to EVO and the like but fighting game tourneys have always been more grassroots.

Ultimately it's because even profit-driven companies aren't immune to chasing the hot new thing without adequately checking to see if it's actually profitable.

[up][up][up]A bit off topic but I think its because they saw how popular League's E-Sports where and they just kept wanting that money now instead of trying to foster up a community that will build e-sports overtime.

The only concern they have is to get a profit over actually building a worthwhile e-sports scene naturally. OWL's massive failure though kinda shows why though that you can't force it (although Blizzard certainly didn't help with their routine awfulness).

One thing I will point out about League though. League shows that if you do spinoff lore things (Arcane) and just for fun kind of things (K.Da) that you could build more ways of making profit that people can enjoy. Blizzard had its chance to do that Overwatch and somehow fucked it up. I mean Lucio's a in-universe musician and Overwatch's trailers look like Pixar trailers, they could of done so much more with Overwatch than chasing comp and then e-sports, and then later reboot the game with shittier MTX.
