Incidentally, Blizzard have said (to my understanding) that at least two of the present characters are gay, but as far as I can tell they haven't said which ones.

D.va is Korean, don't know if that will affect her Japanese popularity. Hanzo and Genji will do great though.

Korean idols can make it big in Japan, although the fad seemed to reach its peak about 5 years ago. Boa is probably the biggest Korean Idol to make it big in Japan.
D.va's in game poster for a concert is on Hanamura the Japanese map and in ' clearly translated from English' Japanese.

I think the question is will it be popular in japan period. They aren't big fans of the genre.
Those days are changing, Black Ops 2 was also published by SE and it sold 200k copies on PS 3, beating sales of things like Animal Crossing New Leaf. Destiny also did well with 140k on PS 3/4.
There is a hardcore shooter fanbase building there.
Overwatch only getting released on PS 4 is a huge thing for Sony I think.
