So my story begins with the death of a holy man hermit who for his last miracle gives self-awareness to the golem whom has served him for much of his life.

After realizing that his master has passed on, the golem seeks to fill a spiritual gap within himself by serving a new master or cause.

However, no matter what cause or master he serves, he is either on the losing side or discovers corruption and hypocrisy in the cause that he serves.

In the end, the golem learns that there is no such thing as an infallible master or cause and he is the only one who can and should lead his own future.

So I want suggestions as to some possible causes and masters he would serve in the course of the story.

I've got

  • Some bandits
  • An industrialist
  • A worker's union
  • Missionaries
  • The Army
  • Rebels

Personally, I'd go with the workers union. Being a golem, he'd probably be familiar with working long hours at syssiphian tasks for little money.

Now everyone pat me on the back and tell me how clever I am!

I would probably add in a scientist as well as another religious figure. The scientist would work for the golem's idea of seeking answers, and depending on how rare these things are in the setting it would be a boon for the scientist. I think that another holy man would make sense for the golem because his previous master was one, and once again the whole Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life thing.
