Ah, the internet. Where you can find just about anything within a few seconds, learn more about the culture of the world, have a conversation with people living on the other side of the world, and have a somewhat fair chance to voice your opinions (as long as they're in line with the website's policy) in what matters to you. And with so many people using it, the world's largest encyclopedia has a culture of it's own to learn about! Ranging from pure entertainment to serious political discussions and protests.

But to state the obvious: you are communicating with millions of people whom you've never met before. As such, you could "pretend" to be someone who knows about a lot of things and instantly become popular on a given website to the point that your opinions will have an lasting impact on people. Their popularity could extend to such to such a point that rivals famous politicians to say the least. And said user who becomes a web celebrity is actually a average person in real life.

On the flip side, you can reinforce the GIFT by acting like complete jerk as a means to vent out your frustrations or some other twisted desire. Sure this may seem okay when you can go form one site to another, spewing trouble until you get permanently banned from every website in existence. And the said troll will rarely feel the physical consequences of someone tracking him down by his IP address and being beaten to a pulp. Or losing their ISP or being put on probation from the internet due to legal issues (yes, this has happened).

I'm not really sensing a topic here. We have a thread in Yack Fest for "random musings".

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
