So, when is this announcement going to be? Is it supposed to be next week?

You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!

So let's go over the details again. The mystery character is:

• A newcomer ( Wolf)
• Popular but likely wasn't the most voted character on the Ballot ( K Rool)
• Will make social media go bonkers
• A first party character ( Any and all third party characters)
• An expected character
• Is not Shovel Knight or Shantae

So going by those details my guess is that the mystery character is: JOHN CENA!!! Okay not really, it's the Inklings. I've seen Chibi-Robo kicked around as a guess, though.

Why would that point exclude K. Rool though?

And "will make social media go bonkers" might, on the other side, mean a trollish character too.

Chibi Robo would be plausible, because his new game Zip Lash needs all the help it can get... and like Fire Emblem Awakening for that other series, it is touted his last chance.

Heck, I'm okay with Chibi Robo...I would rather have the Inklings, but I'm not going to be mad if the little robot is who the mystery character is.

At this point the only character who I don't really care for who the mystery character could be is...well, Dixie Kong. (Sorry, Powerpuffbats...)

I guess there really isn't any real telling, is there? My guess that it was the Inklings is just what I'm guessing the mystery character is.

I feel like there'd be something wrong with adding the Inklings as DLC.

But I feel the same about Ryu, and, well, I'm batting a thousand on that one.

Do feel that K.Rool seems a little more likely though.

Inkling Agent 3 would be cool, and there's a lot of moveset and unique mechanic potential there.

Super Mario Maker has thrown me off- I'd assumed most things made after Smash 4's release would be lucky to get a trophy, but now I feel like Inkling is a very likely possibility.

K. Rool would be nice, though.

I think the Smash fanbase (sans me, honestly) would flip their shit (in a negative way) if Goku or Shrek were DLC fighters.

Also, after playing Pirate's Curse, I now wish I voted for Shantae. I do hope she makes it in since it could lead to another Kid Icarus scenario.

It pretty much has to be an Inkling, no? Somebody deleted a tweet saying that it wasn't Wolf, Shantae, or Shovel Knight.

I don't think so, actually. Like if it was K.Rool for example, a fandom would rejoice and people outside the fandom would be like "yeah that works", but I don't see #KRool4Skool trending anytime soon. He doesn't really have the memetic appeal.

I mean, I obviously don't know how good this person is at gauging the social network impact of a given character (or how good I am at it), but I think it would have to be a character that's either controversial, or already at the center of a lot of social media attention, and he already implied it wasn't the former, and the only possibility I can think of that fits the latter is the Inklings, judging by my Tumblr dashboard.

Then you really don't know the Smash fandom.

It's more like, I don't think the Smash fandom alone is big enough to warrant the description "social media goes bonkers". K.Rool would probably only have immediate appeal to a pretty hardcore crowd. It's not quite like a Megaman or Sonic situation where the entire internet is like "holy shit this is a videogame history milestone, time to brush off my copy of the game and jump on the hype train for a day or two".

I mean, I might be wrong! Or just have a different idea of how big something has to be to give it a blanket term like "social media" instead of just "the Smash fandom".

Quite frankly, I don't see the Inklings getting into smash as that level of "Social Media goes nuts" you imply either.

Heck, I don't think any reveal beyond the Berserk Button non-video-game-characters would get that level of attention.

I admit my Tumblr feed does tend to skew my idea of how popular something is.

To some extent, I wonder how much hyperbole was in there- After all, Smash all by itself is big enough to make social media go aflame.
