Loke chuckled, "Nah, I'll walk with you Ipo." She smiled, 'Ipo' was her nickname for Saenae, she'd given it to her a little after they first met, and it kinda stuck. She didn't think that the girl knew, or particularly cared what it meant. She looked around, then she saw it; a girl, probably a second year, she stood six feet and had a build similar to a brick house. "I wanna wrestle her..." She told Sanae. "Retsu...She looks fun..." Loke loved fighting, and if her opponent could give and take...Well, that just made it more fun.

The driver turned, driving onto what looked into a lift. "So...Who are you?"

"I'm Kurt Trager. Loke Trager is my-" He paused, Loke preferred to use her mother's name, "Loke Kinipela." The driver shrugged.

"Never heard of her." He sighed,

"Pilot?"

"Look, I just drive. Okay? I don't know who half of the people in Nerv are." Kurt sighed, using his thumb to crack all the fingers on his right hand. Washington't sent him just to tour. He sighed, He was a SEAL. Being in a suit working politics just felt...wrong.

UCLA NERV Facilities

The eyebrow peeking over the brim of his shades made it pretty clear that he wasn't the most convinced by that. Georgia did have a certain reputation among her not-peers in this branch. Young and stupid, that was what was whispered behind her back. Though at least she had an excuse in the first point literally being true. No word on the second. "Alright then." He didn't sound so convinced either. But worst came to it some unlucky other personnel would fill everything out for her, so nobody was particularly worried. "Follow me, please." A few of the actual collage students glanced the way of the odd duo as they passed, but though they were not aware of the specifics, they at least knew that confidential and weird stuff was to be expected on their campus. So they turned away, back to their homework and love lives and such. Te life Georgia was probably never realistically going to live herself.

The doors they took could have been mistaken for dorm entrances, but a few clearances later they were in a passage that was far too dank and ominously lit to be anything on a collage campus except the poor-quality bar nobody liked. In this case it was not said bar, though it still smelled of cheap alcohol and piss for some reason. The NERV worker impassively led Georgia through the tunnel, out into another poorly lit and stuffy labyrinth. LA's old metro system, closed to the public for good and re-appropriated into a NERV center of operations. A train was already waiting for them, rust and faulty florescent suggesting this train had not been changed since it's civilian usage many years ago. They were aboard, and then off for a slow and rickety journey towards the old harbor station where Gerogia knew her EVA was being kept on ice.

"What I'm going to show you is, strictly speaking, classified beyond your level of clearance as a pilot." To be fair pilots had about as much clearance as the janitors. "You are not going to be briefed on what it is, this is simply so that you know what it is you are protecting on your journey to Japan. All you personally need to know is that you must never come into direct contact with it. Understood?"

Fuyutsuki Academy

Sanae nodded. "You know, you've never told me what your nickname for me means. Beyond it sounding like something more suitable for a five year old." Loke's analysis was true enough. Sanae was happy to just assume that the nickname was ironically belittling or the like. Sanae threw a glance at the girl Loke pointed as they ran at equidistant points on the track. "You sure? She looks like a monster. Besides, Patricia did want to wrestle you first."

Shirou fell behind a bit in his pace to let Eikichi catch up, intent on having a bit of heart to heart. It seemed he had seen the brief encounter with Ben. "You two never really let up, do you?" Whether Shirou was exasperated or amused was hard to tell, especially with the punctuated nature of his tone due to the body-wide impact of their jogging. It was generally a trait he shared with his sister. Perhaps the proper answer was 'a bit of both'. "You two behave yourselves, alright? I don't think Miss MacNamara will go easy on punishing you just because you're one of her pilots."

The run ended in dust and tears for some, or in Patricia's case triumph and a sticky shirt. The Izumi siblings both ran at an easy pace, seemingly content with conserving energy despite whatever their partners may have had in mind and thus rolling in near the tail end of the runner herd. Shirou was thus in good shape to approach Yuto and give him the friendly once over. "Good hustle, dude. Think you're ready to take me on?" Meanwhile, Patricia approached Loke with a shifty little grin on her glistening and reddened face. While she was speaking out loud, right in a coolly recovering Sanae's hearing range, she was speaking in English. Sanae wasn't especially multilingual, in a reversal of the pre-Impact tendency for Americans to only need to be monolingual.

"You know who you really need to wrestle though...?" Patricia's eyes crept Sanae's way and then ping-ponged between the two girls with constant eyebrow raises. "Comeon, its virtually a free feel out..."

Tokyo-3 NERV Geofront

"I wouldn't have cared less if you had the entire tac ops division working on retrofitting the school baseball field, as long as the work that needs to be done is still getting done." Jacqueline giggled. "But seriously, don't do that. And judging from Miss Miyahara's research, I doubt the angels are going to want to have anything to do with that sort of thing when they show. I think the best you'll get is an angel that might incidentally be a really good pitcher. Of, say, buildings, in addition to baseballs. Anyways, I'll try to encourage the school to promote your team. Your level of dedication might inspire the Children." She curtsied. "That's all then. Back to work, Mr. Scott."

Loke looked at Saenae, "It's a term of endearment." She said, before Saenae noticed her intended opponent. "Yeah, pat does but come on! Tell me she doesn't look like she can put on a good fight!"

After Loke began her stretches, Pat came over. "I don't want to hurt Ipo. And just feeling her up?" She shook her head "Besides, She looks way more fun!" She said, pointing Retsu out to her secret keeper. Pat was the only one who knew about her, or, at Least, the only one Loke knew about. The problem being that she was not at all subtle about her opinions on the matter.

"Now, come on." Loke started to walk towards the mats.

Eikichi stretched a bit after the small jog. He had kept up among the middle of the crowd, thus missing some of the bounciness some of the girls provided. Patricia's sweaty t-shirt display made all up for it. And it seemed Shou had Yuto covered. Good. Now only beating that obnoxious musclebrain of Ben remained.

Umi and Kimi were sizing each one up. It was no surprise they'd elect eachother their sparring partners. It usually went like this. Then they'll call out some random guy who would treat the winner. But would end treating them both, as the loser would keep whining.

"Winner goes on a date with Shou!" Kimi exclaimed to Umi. That managed Eikichi to produce a chuckle despite the state of things. Ben awaited on one mat, cracking his knuckles and smiling like if he was going to strangle some kittens. His afroamerican features were a sharp contrast to everyone's else.

But Eikichi was in no mood. His sight was unfocused, and he was calculating each step he was taking. Those at NERV would recognize this behaviour. It was the same behaviour he had when he entered the Eva's cockpit.

Georgia knew that look. It had been thrown her way ever since joining NERV. But if she really had to be honest with herself it was something she'd grown used to long before now. She looks and acts like a typical young skate punk. It's not hard for people to want to fit her into that neat little box. But those chucklefucks had no clue as to who she really was. She let them think whatever the hell they wanted. Mostly because their opinion didn't mean absolute shit to her in the end. It was funny, really. Pulling the wool over their eyes and all.

She followed the bearded dude at an easy pace, not batting a single eyelash as they went into super secret territory. I'm sure someone thought all of this was so damn clever. If Georgia weren't so determined to remain underwhelmed she'd actually be, well, whelmed. Onto the rickety old train they went, and as it slowly creaked to life and started rumbling down the track she took a seat, setting her skateboard down again.

More talk about top secret junk she shouldn't really be shown ensued. Now it was her turn to raise a brow. What the hell were they going on about anyway? Well apparently whatever it was they didn't want her touching it. Good thing for them the saying curiosity killed the cat didn't really apply to her. She nodded in agreeance, letting him know of her willingness to play by the rules. They always liked when you did that. Blind obedience was their favorite thing ever.

Yuto nodded the affirmative, conserving breathe so he could put up a better fight on the mat. As he made his way to one of the wrestling mats, h looked at his opponent. Shirou was pretty athletic, so this was going to be a hard fight, it didn't help that he had been nothing but friendly to Yuto by this point, but the pilot wasn't about to hold back. Later on, Gabe arrived at the school via secret underground train tunnel from NERV HQ, now wearing a loose fitting untucked button-down shirt and khaki pants befitting a casually dressed schoolteacher. He also wore his school baseball cap, the rest of the manager's uniform tucked away in his backpack along with the team binder and his worn old glove. He would change into it later at the school locker room. Gabe had noted somewhat ruefully that before his conscription, as it were, by NERV's military branch, he could have removed the cap, tucked in his shirt, thrown on a tie, lab coat, and ID badge, and shown up ready for work back on the MIT campus.

Gabe had been told to check in with Mac Namara at the gym, which suited him just fine considering the baseball field was just outside. He entered the gym and walked up to her, setting his backpack down next to him and noting the students pairing up and squaring off on the mats. "Wrestling, huh? I figured you would be a tough PE teacher Ms. Mac Namara, but I didn't think you'd have the kids at each ofher's throats already." He spoke with just the slightest hint of his native New England accent, addressing her as a casual teaching colleague rather than with her formal military rank.

Shona grinned at the enthusiasm a subset of her class showed towards the day's lesson. She ran alongside the students, offering advice or encouragement to a few as needed, then led the group in stretches before finally gathering everyone around the mats.

"OK, ground rules." Shona's voice was firm, shades of the UN Army Sergeant shining through. "Wrestling is a contact sport, yes, but it's not an excuse to brawl. No scratching, no hair-pulling, no eye-gouging, no blows - oh, and don't try to sneak a feel in." She added, looking pointedly at a few of the boys. "I see any of that, you will spend the rest of the lesson doing suicides on the other side of the gym."

"Now, everyone who already knows what you're doing, the mats on the left please. I'm trusting you to play it safe while I help the others. Let me down and you'll be coming back for suicides at lunch break. OK, everyone else, the point of wrestling is to use your weight and leverage to get your opponent on the ground and pin them there. What you need to remember is..." She gathered the students unfamiliar with the sport and started going over the basics. Despite tossing students over her hips and demonstrating safe holds, she always seemed to be in a position to watch the others spar with one eye. Eventually, she let them have at it and retreated to the sidelines, in time to see Gabe walking in the door.

"Figured I'd give them something fun for first period." She replied, chuckling. "Besides, it's not just about fighting. I'm hoping this'll give some of them a chance to gain a little confidence."

As she spoke, her eyes were scanning over the class, keeping watch for trouble. Like, for instance, Eikichi's sudden transition into combat-mode. She'd seen enough fighting folk to recognise it. Better keep him on a tight leash, he's likely to take this way to seriously.

Ken was almost done compiling the needed names. So far, the 10 recruits he picked out had special forces experience in the GSDF. Perfect. They probably would be able to get used to the nature of Bethany.

Better make that call.

The masked officer made a phone call to the Geofront's security room with some instructions in mind.

"This is Captain Ohara calling in from Tac Ops. Let me know if any visits are happening for the Geofront as per protocol, I'm in charge until the commander or the Major is back."

The guide's scrutiny of her apparent agreement was, again, obvious enough. If humans spontaneously developed optical laser abilities he'd probably have burnt a hole through his shades. "Do bear in mind that contact with the subject in question may have potentially irreversible effects. Could turn you into a vegetable for the rest of your life. On the other hand that would make you easier to deal with for once." He shrugged. "Of course, it's up to you. You are an adult capable of making your own decisions, after all." The sneer in that last bit could be heard even through the neutral tone and expression his face had been chiseled out of.

The train bumped and shunted it's way down the rusty rails used decades ago by people who had probably died in Second Impact, their ghosts rattling as they repeatedly knocked the skateboard she'd sent down, sending it rolling abrasively into her ankles more than a few times. Finally they reached their stop, a far less decrepit station with a few white-coated scientists milling about, checking computer terminals built into walls and catching other trains to wherever they needed to be. The security personnel escorting Georgia waited for her to get off before silently leading her down a spacious and well lit tunnel that seemingly stretched on for miles into a blot of a sealed metal door on the other side, their footsteps echoing as they walked.

"An ironic one, no doubt." Sanae shrugged off Loke's death wish and coolly sauntered away, of the pilots it seemed she was the sole one who actually needed Miss MacNamera's instructions. A lot of things Sanae was, but an athletic student was not one of them. Thus she was sequestered off to the mats on the right, tossed in a few demonstrations, and on her merry way. Taken out pretty quickly several times in succession, which gave her plenty of time when she wasn't a smoking crater on the ground to check out her friends and judge them behind their backs.

"Man Loke, if Sanae becomes the one that got away... you'll regret this in your golden years, eh?" Patricia's hyper-aware self caught Eikichi throwing eyes at her shirt, she threw him a certain finger back as she walked with Loke to the mats. "Whatever, you and Retsu go ham on each other if you must. Good luck!" Patricia was then on her own mat with her own opponent, a girl equally as puny as her. The two would headlock and grunt and shift around for some time to little success, Patricia not being the most technically gifted when it came to ancient Grecian arts.

"Well there goes my spending money for the week." Shirou exaggerated a sigh as he watched Kimi and Umi wrestling over the right to his time which he had not expressly granted either. Still, even the bold samurai of the Fuyutsuki baseball team couldn't resist the unspeakably adorable idols of his class. He just resisted them better. "Yo, coach!" Shirou called out to Gabe as he made his presence known near Shona, over the sounds of grunting and flesh slamming into vulcanized rubber. Shirou's English was predictably as lackluster as his sister's and thus even that simple phrase came out as mangled as roadkill. "Right, now... Yuto, let's have a good fight!" Shirou grunted to take out the piss, solidified his stance with a practiced bounce on his heels. Then it was lock together and on.

Shirou tried simple tactics first, try to twist his body so that Yuto would be thrown off his center of gravity. The kid was every bit as strong and solid as his appearance suggested.

Understood. All quiet so far. Indeed the Command Center was quiet peaceful and serene on school days, the staff being as thinned by their mundane duties as was. Umi and Kimi quickly got tangled up, neither one seemed to bulge. Having similar physique, the outcome wasn't that surprising. Both fell to the ground, in mutual armlocks squirming, with neither wanting to give up. In the end, both gave up at the same time. But since both had given up, they felt they had to do another round. Much to the happiness of the boys around both.

But for Eikichi, those things had ceased to exist. He missed completely the Ojou getting wasted like a ragdoll as he carefully eyed Ben. He took off his shirt, baring his torso in an aggressive stance.

"Feisty." Benjamin snickered as he did the same with his ebony frame. "Just how I like it." He taunted back, staring the detached eyes of his opponent.

That was all the reaction he could get, as in no time, Eikichi buried himself deep inside his defense, putting his head under his armpit and delivering a fast and brutal chokeslam upon Benjamin, who could only grunt in surprise as he slammed the mat.

Ben got up, his eyes narrowing. He had been caught with the guard down, that wouldn't work twice. He tried to grab Eikichi, but the young pilot flexed his arms in defense, not allowing for a clear hold. In the end Ben bullrushed his opponent and got the pilot down with a simple yet effective tackle.

"How's that?" He taunted. Still no response from Eikichi who got up once more. He eyed Ben. Ben eyed him, as he tried to grab him with all his might. Eikichi just stood there, holding his stance, absorbing the charge with a grunt.

"Oh fuck." Ben exclaimed as he noticed what he had been set up to. Somehow, he was now being held upside down, in a vertical suplex stance. The sound he made upon landing in the floor, half of his body outside the mat woke up Umi and Kimi from their wrestling trance. Eikichi was panting due to the effort, while Ben was quivering, trying to get up from the blow.

"You're lucky, Ben." Eikichi spat. "You won't break even if I go at my fullest."

"Confidence is good. Just make sure my players don't overexert themselves too much." Gabe nodded over at the boy who had yelled over at him in broken English. "Especially him. Shirou Izumi. He had a .590 batting average and 14 home runs last year, just staggering for a high school kid. I bet I could put him in at any field position and he'd be effective." He mentioned all this to Shona almost as though he was sharing the results of a particularly interesting science experiment. Then he sighed and turned back over to her. "I just hope I can keep up with them. It's been ages since I last threw a baseball. When I was their age I used to be able to touch the mid-70's with my fastball, but now I bet I'd struggle to hit the high 60's. Maybe I ought to stretch out my arms a bit."

Loke shot a look at Pat's chest as she flipped off the man, before smiling innocently at her, she looked, just in time to see Saenae getting flung around like a rag doll. "See, that's why I don't want to wrestle her." Before happily walking up to Retsu, "Hey!" Retsu looked at her.

"Hi?" She asked, not really sure wether being talked to by Loke was a good thing. Loke smiled at her.

"Wanna wrestle?" Retsu looked around, seeing a lack of people interested in wrestling her, she shrugged.

"Sur-" Loke immediately bodychecked Retsu, only for the giant girl to stagger back, stop and slam her-hard into the ground. Loke slowly sat up, before turning to her, grinning-Not a Slasher Smile, but a honest-to-goodness happy smile, like a child having fun. Retsu raised an eyebrow. "You oka-" Loke immediately rammed into her, knocking Retsu onto her back, with a large hand, she seized Loke and threw her off of her.

Georgia just stared back at Beard Guy. She resisted the urge to tell him to drop the shitty attitude. It wasn't cute or funny or anything like that. In a rare display of patience she simply nodded. "Understood." Being reduced to a vegetative state didn't sound too appealing. But still, the way he kept pumping up the seriousness of this thing was really alarming. But...

Wait.

"Subject?" Her mind zeroed in on that word in particular. That usually meant someone, not something. What were those NERV bastards up to now? The train came to a stop on cue, and she stepped off behind her escort, following him further into the base. "Is this going to be some kind of convoluted babysitting job?" She spoke up again suddenly, crossing her arms as they continued on down the long hallway. "You said subject, right? As in a person? Or..."

'Beard Guy' was probably coolly rearding her back, though even in the super artificial lighting of their surroundings it was impossible to see through the thickness of his shades. One had to wonder if he could even see though it. He actually smirked a bit when she responded to the affirmative, having probably been expecting something far cheekier. At least Georgia could put on an act when she needed to. He was silent for some time. Maybe ignoring her for a brief moment of rest and solitude, maybe considering his words carefully. "As in... sentient. That would be the best way to describe it." On that ominous note, they reached the end of the corridor and a pass card bought them entry into the cavern beyond.

It was a truly immense room, the sort that could have comfortably held an Eva and then some, the sort that shouldn't have been possible considering the area's unstable tectonics. So large that the light didn't reach all the way down into it's depths from where they were, an observation deck. But even as that was noted they were already slowly moving down, the door behind them melting away as the deck itself began to slowly traverse downward into the depths of the room like an elevator. As the lights affixed to the elevator began to light the room's depths, they were greeted with a curious sight. A gigantic expanse of white, which quickly made itself clear to be tarp, bulgy and throbbing like a dull heartbeat from whatever was under it. Vaguely shaped like a person, if one took it in as a whole, which was hard considering the angle and it's size. A blood red implement was stabbed into it's rough center, vanishing beyond the tarp and extending into the air a good distance, glinting like steel yet not an entirely familiar substance to behold.

Fuyutsuki Academy

Sanae just sighed extensively from her resting spot on the ground, nursing a slight bruise on one arm from where she'd skidded against the mats too hard. She was sheepishly waving off the apologies of the girl who'd managed to plant her that hard, watching the others even as she did so. So many people she didn't know what to do with. Losing yourself in the moment to baser urges seemed to be a common feature of those who were pilots of the Evangelion, she mused to herself. At least her brother was going easy on Yuto.

Speaking of that fight. Yuto's determination, for the moment, held off against Shirou's superior... everything, really. Build, form, you name it. He grunted to himself in approval. "Good energy, Yuto! I guess this is the sort of strong stuff that makes a pilot, huh?" Shirou returned to a neutral stance, not especially budging himself against the pressure Yuto was exerting, probably thinking of his next move, or maybe momentarily wondering if the idol twins had already figured out which of them he'd be dating...

Arakawa Dredging Project

It was a quiet and lazy day on Tokyo-3's main river, still flowing fast and strong despite the pollution of it's water into a musky red at the cusp of 2I. Nobody knew where the dark taint had come from, all they knew is that not a single fish had stirred in the river's depths since that fateful day. Only in a few lakes scattered around the world did water remain clear, did fish survive. For the rest, filtration and purification plants and aquariums were their salvation.

Plaintive voices cried out commands over the sound of drilling into the river banks, Lilin-guided machines cautiously clawing and poking at the earth, their supposed dominion. At Shona's command most of the staff working on the project had been reassigned, leaving only a skeleton crew to try and finish the all but abandoned job. Move it this way, cut at this angle, the depth of the commands lost forever to time and the surface mist that shrouded the river they were working on.

And a moment later, a blast of pure light shattered that surface.

Fuyutsuki Academy

The clarion call of alarms then resounded through the halls of the school. Alarms that hadn't ever been heard before except in drills that were doubtless annoying yet somewhat creepy childhood memories for most. But they'd stopped the practice of citywide drills about a year ago. So for it to return now... The students, almost as one collective body, quietly sought the eyes of the three pilots. Loke, Eikichi, Yuto. Somewhere among those glances Sanae and Patricia might have been, but already the shifting of feet was towards the well-practiced evacuation routes, a din thrown up in tandem with the murmuring and whispers of what was to come, morbid gossip from the student body.

"Looks like it's time for you to go, Yuto. May your strength prevail." Shirou clapped the pilot across his skinnier shoulder once and then drifted off to join the cloud of student evacuating. Soon, only the NERV personnel were left. Plus one.

"You hear the alarms, right?" Suzume was wearing a stained and burned lab coat, probably having been working with a particularly rambunctious lab class this whole time. "The elevator's already prepped. HQ should be sending us a briefing once they know what the hell is happening themselves." Suzume shrugged as if what was being discussed was every day fare for all involved. "Come on." She led them on, through now eerily empty hallways and towards the faculty lounge. This was also deserted, meals and such left half uneaten on desks. On the far side, a large service elevator that could have fit double their number was waiting for them.

Tokyo-3 NERV

The quiet was broken almost the moment the attack came. Almost immediately all hands were to their stations, data being pulled up in droves as they attempted to grab control over the situation before it spiraled out of control. Even the workstations near Ken's were soon bustling and hustling.

For a moment, Yuto had let himself think he could win. He let himself think that things could go his way. Then the alarm went off, and he was shuffled off towards the NERV elevator with his fellow pilots. Now all he could feel was a growing sense of dread. Oh Shit, Oh Shit, Oh SHIT! A part of him though, was silently excited for the challenge that lay ahead. If wrestling a classmate could have given him a chance to prove himself, then this was only a substantially larger opportunity. It was just unfortunate for Yuto that the silent side of his mind was losing the battle for control of his body.

Still in full uniform, including vest and balaclava, Ken gave out his orders to everyone manning their stations.

"I need a comm channel opened up with the UN Army on the ground. I need to coordinate their efforts with our security forces to ensure the evacuation order was executed."

"Sentient. Gotcha." Georgia gave Beard Guy a sarcastic thumbs up. Yeah, there's that attitude he was probably used to. She didn't have any interest in playing guessing games. Sticking to whatever plan they desired and keeping up the act was going to continue. For now. Beard Guy swiped a key card that admitted them past the metal door, Georgia wordlessly following him onto the platform. Leaning against one of the railings she shut her eyes for the moment as the deck began to slide downwards. For all the shit she gave them, NERV had done a lot with this whole place. It couldn't have been easy setting things up down here.

The light hitting her face caused her to reopen her eyes, and she was immediately met with what was very likely the subject. "The hell?" She stared at it, mouth slightly agape. The throbbing bit wasn't lost on her, especially. She whirled around to give Beard Guy a look of disgust. "Do I even want to know what you fucks unearthed?"

"Who am I, Elisha Otis?"

Loke cracked her spine, smiling at the group. Before loudly shouting, "Run! You're all going to die!" Before turning, cracking her knuckles individually, every fiber of her being was dancing, waiting for the ability to paint the town red with Angels. She turned, looking at the other two. "Come on!"

Kurt froze, the elevator opened, and multiple people were sprinting past him. He slowly walked out, reaching a bridge, a screen showed a river with a massive explosion, he quickly looked around, trying to find anyone who could tell him what was going on.

Eikichi raised an eyebrow, as he looked at his surroundings. Without saying a word to Ben, he grabbed his shirt and began walking towards the exit, still topless. He caught a glance of Umi and Kimi glomping Shou in faked fear attacks as they went towards the exit.

"Understood. Are we to expect disturbances on our way towards HQ?" Eikichi added, as he kept tailing the doctor.

Shone strode into the elevator, leaving her bags and paperwork sitting forgotten in the gym. The only thing she'd grabbed was her phone, which was now pressed firmly to her ear.

"This is Mac Namara. I'm en route with the Children and Dr Miyahara." Shona almost seemed like a different person. She was still dressed in her sporting gear, but her voice was hard and no-nonsense, her slightly impish grin gone. This was what she'd been training for for the last few years, and her body had jumped into combat mode at the sound of those sirens just as surely as if they'd been gunshots.

"HQ, I need a sit-rep. Gimme something." Until the evangelions hit the ground, she could trust her staff to follow protocol and set things up without her. The thought didn't stop her from tapping at the elevator handrail with one impatient finger, belaying the agitation otherwise missing from her stern game-face.

At the sound of the alarm, Gabe had picked his backpack back up and calmly followed the NERV personnel and pilots to the elevator from whence he had come not a half hour ago. Presently he stood in silence next to Major Mac Namara on her phone barking her orders back to HQ. Though his face was as blank and emotionless as Dr. Miyahara's, he could feel his heart pounding away inside his chest. Nothing much he could do until he was once again behind his workstation at the command center.

NERV HQ, Tokyo-3

"Shelters are filling up at expected rates, Captain Ohara!"

"Communications established, commander!"

"Automated defenses are doing what they can. Evacuation is proceeding without a hitch. Get your pilots in those Eva before this one makes contact with the Geofront!" Apparently the forward office of the UN was really close to the action, because the loud metallic cry of warheads being launched could be heard to almost painful levels, even over the radio highway. Accompanying were the expected explosions... and something not quite human, the sort of low, throbbing, piteous warble a wild animal would make while injured.

A petite little girl in standard uniform and balaclava shoved her way past General Kurt with a strength unbecoming of her appearance, shouting something indistinct at the others swarming the command bridge, running to their stations. Nobody really seemed to be paying attention to him at the moment, from the highest tiers of the terrace where Ken was downwards to the gangways where Kurt had found himself.

"The Children and staff are en route, Captain!"

NERV HQ, UCLA

"Unearthed probably isn't the right word." Beard Man shrugged, whatever reaction he had to the grotesque sight was thoroughly shrouded behind the great expanse of his shades. "And even if we were authorized to tell you, you wouldn't understand. We don't really understand it ourselves. There are some things on this world that just weren't meant to be known." Another of the smallest shrugs, noncommittal in the extreme and to the very core. She wasn't getting anything more out of him than that, it was pretty clear. Georgia would have been around long enough to know when a conversation was over.

The lift bottomed out in the lightless depths, the flood lights attached to the elevator illuminating only a tiny piece of the tarp as had been seen from above. It had been even larger than an Evangelion, which already made a human feel positively miniscule. The duo were ants in the shadow of this thing.

Elevator

"Nope." A simple, monosyllabic answer for Eikichi. Always one of few words, the Doctor was. The elevator was one of several super-fast ones scattered in strategic locations throughout the city, designed up to every standard that it was possible to be designed to, though it had hardly been half a minute since they'd stepped on the echoes of rumbles bouncing against bedrock about them already said they were near the Geofront. Almost before any other words could be thrown out edgewise the elevator reached it's first stop. Pilots bay, where workers were already prepping the entry plugs for entry into the Eva, the titanic monoliths just on the other side of a thin wall. "Go on."

Before the kids were even gone Miyahara turned to her two peers who had shared the ride with her. Shona's call got the following response from a somewhat overly-steely and disaffected voice. Compensating for something, perhaps fear:

"Evacuation is proceeding as planned under Captain Ken, who is currently overseeing our operations. We're still trying to lock down the hostile's position, though the UN auto-turrets currently seem to be holding. Director Jacqueline's health was complicating, so it is most likely that she will not be involved with this operation. We're just waiting on the Children now."

"They're here." Suzume responded in kind for the Major. As the Children left and the NERV personnel quickly directed them to get suited up, the elevator was already closed and once more descending deeper into dogma.

Bridge, Tokyo-3

"The children have arrived and Major MacNamara is en route, Captain."

"About time." The UN official on the comm sternly murmured into his receiver. Whether he had actually intended on saying anything besides that was a point that would never be explored. Instead, a massive explosion tore through the airwaves, washing out all else for but a moment. And then silence.

"... It took out the batteries. In one shot."
