I can get behind this!
Bite my shiny metal ass.I'm probably going to be unpopular for this, but I think making Victor Frankenstein a woman completely misses the point of Shelley's book.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the Great[[ Frankenstein1931 So does making the Creature a big, dumb monster.]] Your point?
It's not as if this was a serious adaption of Shelley's novel anyway. This is PBS we are talking about. It should be obvious that this is an Edutainment Show with a bit of story running in the background. Perhaps you should actually watch the thing before offering any criticism.
Bite my shiny metal ass....And what was the point, then?
Well, the point of the Creature's birth was A. getting out the trauma of her miscarriage, and B. the prototypical sci-fi warning about unnatural birth, as the Creature is birthed solely by his "father"
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatAh this looks pretty dead, that's too bad.
Yes, I meant the thread, it's gotten a bit darker.
Oh are you a science teacher/professor?
So is the science accurate? I mean it must be somewhat since you're thinking of using it in your classes.
A fair bit, yeah. It's by PBS, and near as I can tell is part of their public service thing.
I mean, yeah, a lot of it is experimental. Theoretical. But that's a neat in-character thing on Victoria's part.
I also like that it's an updating of the story though. I think it's a really cool thing, and I've been showing it to some of my colleagues in the literature department.
I love PBS for doing this. I really truly do.
Ah okay cool, yeah I figured I mean I think they outright say it.
Yes Settings Update make interesting reinterpretations, and it's neat what they keep in, and what they change.
I like the idea of Victor getting Gender Swapped. Slightly less so the "prejudice against women in science" angle, seeing as that's gonna make her inevitable descent into madness and the destruction of all she loves a bit...well...unfortunate.
I mean, Victor getting discredited and ostracized by his peers in the book is supposed to be a red flag that he's kinda terrible, not something that makes him more sympathetic. The scientific community is right to reject Victor, what does it say if Victoria's peers are right to reject her, even if it's for the wrong reasons?
I'm loving the hell out of the series, honestly I am. It's funny and tragic and just all-around well done, and Anna Lore's Vic is superbly acted and a joy to watch. There's a part of me that feels like the "women in STEM" angle should be handled a bit more delicately than it has been so far, is all.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. So there's also a website.
@Wack'd Yeah it's kind of weird because their prejudiced but they do have a point that her ethics aren't really up to par (you should probably explain to your friends what they're getting into before getting them to agree or it's not informed consent)but they are clearly also sexist with the comments that they said to her mom.
Aaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuuuuuuugh so much stuff
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. From the blog: more foreshadowing. Also, dammit Victoria.
A solution for death. Also we know what Robert looks like. Also more foreshadowing. Also more dammit Victoria.
I like the facebook comment in the comment section that points out the overpopulation issues inherent in immortality.
Robert, sadly, looks nothing like any film student I've ever met and instead pretty much what everyone assumes a film student looks like.
That hat. Ugh.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.EDIT: So Victoria linked to the Daily Mail as a source. Truly her descent into evil is complete.
The brain formally known as Robert.

Well [[Spoiler:So are they just hoping the ethics board doesn't watch these videos or something? Because I doubt they are on board with bringing back the dead. Also the other rats killing Kenneth foreshadowing?]]

Almost definitely, on both counts.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.
A gender-flipped retelling of Frankenstein from the creators of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. There's four episodes up at the moment, and here's the first one.
I've never watched a Pemberley Digital show before since I'm not a huge Austen fan, but I can see myself really getting into this. Poor Iggy.
