How to learn about politics?

I'm trying to learn about it by reading a lot of content, but I'm never sure about what to think about actual topics in politics, or economy etc... I'm not sure which media or news are too biased, and can't even spot fallacies that are probably there, and, because of that, I have some headaches trying to form a reasonable opinion about important topics.... I can't really fully understand them. I have also some friends that really know EVERYTHING about politics, and it's awesome to hear them talking (if we have to present homework together, I'll be there just to move slides). Sometime I think it would be great to have just like a master to teach me what's relevant and not, until I figure it out by myself. But it won't happen. Do you have some suggestions to SERIOUS learning about it? To understand international affairs, like arab-israeli conflict, or spot flat arguments or something like that? I have Hobsbawm's book, but I don't know it it will be good for a start. On internet people like to recommend Machiavelli.

Edit.: I 'think the title would be better like: how to learn about politics*

PS.: Sorry bad english

This doesn't really have legs as an individual topic, but you might want to post in this thread for some advice.
