Re: Why not use another voice actor for Genie: Williams ad-libbed a lot. You can get a sound-alike for the voice but the humor and delivery is hard to replicate.
Not defending the idea but pointing out why Disney might have been thinking about it if they were.

Actually, based on what I read (can't remember where), the real reason is that if Williams's estate rakes in too much money off his work, the taxes on his inheritance will go up. The stipulation in his will is there to keep those taxes low.
